Kim,
Thank you for responding. I don't see any names that come close except your
John (1815) and my gg grandfather John had a son John (jr) b. 1816. in Ashland
Co. OH. Other possible siblings to John (jr) are Soloman b. 1838 and James b.
1827 all in OH. Records are not clear on birth places and the reason I say
that is my gg grandfather John Chapman lived in Stark Co. and Ashland Co. OH.
So some of his children were born in Stark and some in Ashland Co. He, John
(Sr) died in Allen Co., IN but I don't have a date. Thanks again.

Harold, I had kind of thought that maybe there could be connection with that John. It is possible that he could be my John's father or brother. My John was born on May 25, 1815. There were no Josephs in the next generation or any other that I can remember. I know quite often the children were named after family members and also grandparents. The children of John did have some odd names.

I was looking through my Union County, Ohio history book, written in 1915 recently. I found info on several Chapmans. I have listed them below:
Jason Chapman
John Chapman
A. S. Chapman & Co.
C. S. Chapman
Thomas, David, Chase & Jason Chapman-enlisted in the War of 1812
Samuel D. Chapman
Charles S. Chapman
If anyone has been looking for the information on any of these fellows, I would be glad to refer to my book and give it to you. I believe that something was stated that some of them came from Virginia or West Virginia and possibly Kentucky.
Unfortunately, they are not my Chapmans!!

Lawanna,
I checked out John Chapman's in 1900 WV. There are two possibilities
below:
(note Mason is next to Cabell Co)
1900 Census Mason County, Page 45a
John Chapman b. Dec 1876, 24 yrs old, married for less than one year,
he and both parents born WV.
M?? M. Chapman b. Mar 1880, 17 yrs old, married for less than one
year, she and both parents born WV.
No children listed.
I can't read her first name, but can tell it starts with an M. And
her middle initial is M.
(Braxton is middle WV)
Another possible in Braxton County, Page 63:
John H. Chapman b. Oct 1856, 43 yrs old, married 4 yrs, he and both
parents born in MI.
Margaret Chapman b. Feb 1870, 30 yrs old, married 4 yrs, had 3
children, 2 living, she and both parents born WV.
Sprag? Chapman b. May 1897 son
Mabel Chapman b. Jan 1900 daughter
I hope this helps,
Cindy

Shandi,
Don't worry about bugging me! If I can help others as many have helped me,
then I'm glad to have the opportunity. "My" Chapman's arrived in Russell
Co., KY in the mid/late 1820's from VA.. My gggtgrandparents, Joseph & Nancy
Chapman had 11 to 13 children, the 2nd youngest named Elizabeth and born in
1837. However, I have her marrying Lewis Bailey on June 29, 1859 in Russell
Co. It doesn't look like we have the same person, does it? Sorry, but it
looks like I'm not going to be able to help you. Keep plugging at it, you'll
get there one of these days!
Barry Chapman.

"My" Chapman's arrived in Russell Co KY from VA in the mid/late 1820's. My
gggtgrandparents, Joseph & Nancy Chapman had 11 to 13 children, the youngest
named John. However, he was born in 1840, not 1829.
Sorry, but I haven't come across a John Randolph. Good luck with your
search.
Barry Chapman.

I'm looking for information on Wilma Lee (or Wylmalee) CHAPMAN b. 6 Apr 1906
in Fayette County WV. in May 1928 she married (Clyde) Delbert CASTO in
Columbus, OH. According to the marriage record her parents are John W
CHAPMAN and Margaret WARD.
Her social security app lists her birthplace as Huntington, WV and her
mother as Maggie May WARD.
I'm about halfway through the 1910 Fayette County Census and haven't found
her yet. I just started looking in the Huntington, Cabell County, WV
census. I believe she has younger sister, Marie b. abt 1909.
BTW I found Wilma and Clyde in the 1930 Census in Columbus, OH and can share
that info.
Anyone have info on this family?
Lawanna Casto
Troy,
Those names could be part of my line because my line comes through that area at
the same time as you mentioned heading west into Ohio and Indiana. I don't
recognize the names though.

Barry,
I lose track of who I've bugged and who I haven't, so I'm going to hope for
the best and ask you if you have any info on an Elizabeth "Betsy Ann"
Chapman, married to Richard Saunders/Sanders. They were in Covington Co Al
for the 1850 census. I think she was born somewhere around 1825 (I don't
have my notes in front of me right now). I have been told her family "came
from VA", she was married in Dale Co Al (I think).
Thanks for any help, shandi

Kim,
In reply, my gg grandfather, John Chapman, was born in PA ca. 1794 and was the
son of Joseph Chapman of PA (no dates on Joseph). Joseph is my brick wall. Do
you think there is a connection?

I am looking for information on an Ella CHAPMAN born in Columbus 11 June
1860.
Her mother's maiden name was TURNER from Virginia.
She also had a sister, Fannie (Mary Frances) who married an Aaron DEETS in
Ayr, Nebraska 2 Nov 1879.
Her father's name may have been John, and she may have had a brother
William. John born circa 1825 and William circa 1844.
I do not know the given name of her mother.
Did Ohio have birth certificates in 1860 in Columbus? Could someone tell me
where to send for one, if they issued them at that time?
Any help gratefully received!
