Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb
Hi Chappies:
I have to unsubscribe from all my lists for awhile as I have to limit
the email coming in to my Inbox. I had subscribed to a new list a couple
of days ago, and an answer to a query that I placed on that list came in
as a "compromised" email. In order to clear up the mess it caused, I
will lose ALL the messages I have filed in email folders. (I'm ashamed
to admit how many I have!) Just a friendly warning....don't let your
email messages pile up in folders as a method of filing...it can
backfire on you if you have a problem that erases all the messages in
all those folders. I'm going to salvage as much as I can by printing out
or by transferring to word processing files. And then I will call 'tech
support' for help. (Am I the only one who feels that 'tech support'
should be called 'heck support', as they seem to cause a bigger problem
than they solve???)
I know this was a non-genealogy message, but just wanted to warn
everyone not to do what I did, which was to use email as a filing
system.

Corey,
If no one claims her, please send the data to Gil Alford, Corresponding
Secretary of the Chapman Family Association to add to the Chapman
Database. I know he would want to add it to all that he has compiled on
Universal Chapmans. His email addy is GAlford1(a)compuserve.com I've also
cc'd him on this so that he aware of my suggestion.
Thanks!

Anyone care to claim a Mary A. Chapman, daughter of Amos Chapman, from Lafayette Medina, Medina County, Ohio. She died in Vicksburg, Warren Co., MS on June 11, 1861. I had thought she might be one of ine and ordered a copy of her estate file from the county courthouse. So far as I can figure, she's not part of my line, so I thought I'd ask to see if anyone wants to claim her.

Per son's marriage cert referred to as Alfred Arthur CHAPMAN; on son's death cert referred to as Arthur CHAPMAN.
Married Mary Ann Adeline ALLEE.
I believe that they may have had three sons. I know of one Frederick John CHAPMAN born approx 1872 London, Eng. Either a son Arthur or perhaps himself may have been a mounted policeman

Does anyone have any data on a John CHAPMAN marrying a Susannah COLE, ca
1781, Frederick County, VA or Berkeley Co, VA/WV? Any other Chapman
connections to Cole in that area of Virginia? Pat Pulasky
Hi List:
Is anyone trying to locate info on a Warner CHAPMAN? I found a neat
account of a Warner Chapman in a little history of Smithton(Smithburg)
West Virginia (now Doddridge County, WV). ("History of Smithburg" by Ned
Jones.)
I thought perhaps someone has been trying to find his whereabouts.
Warner Chapman was highly praised in the history as a man of "steady
perseverence and determination to succeed", as he, with the help of only
the simplest tools, managed to build a home and mill without assistance
from anyone else. He apparently came to western Virginia from eastern
Virginia about 1805; had three or four children when he came, and came
very poor. Possibly had Indian blood, as "his appearance would indicate
that to be a fact". It went on to say that "when one thinks of the
surroundings, the limitless wilderness, with only a bridle path for a
road and the impossibility of transportation and the absence of anything
to work with and the stupendous undertaking, it seems wonderful that he
ever succeeded." It went on to say that "after Chapman sold, he went to
merchandising and did fairly well, and left something to his children.
Chapman was a good neighbor and a good citizen, having the instincts of
a gentleman if not the culture." Can't add anything more to
that......Chappies are the best!!!! Pat Pulasky

Hi everyone who replied to my 'coming home' message; I apologise for not
replying, but I came down with a virus (thank goodness, it was I who had
the virus, and not my computer!!!!). As soon as my body mends and my
mind gets back into gear, I will post the Berkeley County, WV/George
Chapman info. Maria, do you think you're related to the Chapman/Cullen
family? If so, welcome into the fold. Blessings to you all. Pat

Hi Chappies. I'm Michael Chapman, now from Las Vegas, Nevada. I've traced
my Chapmans back to my GGGF, William Sherman Chapman, born 1810 in Tennessee,
who married Mehala (or Mahala), who was born in 1814 in Kentucky. I can't
find anything further back than that. My line from William goes to Daniel S.
Chapman, born in 1837 in Illinois, who married a Ruth Shirley, born in 1841.
Most of the relations from this era are buried in the "Meriss" family
cemetery. Any "hits" out there? Anyone that can connect into my line and
help me provide more links? Email me at MBChap(a)aol.com. Looking forward to
finding more relatives.
Hi Michael....Welcome!
Please check the archives for the list at

Thanks Marsha, for this information I believe that the Robert N Chapman
listed is the son of Madison Chapman and one of his wives. This Robert
Newton Chapman was born in Dec. 1851, so he would have been 24 in Jan of
1876. His wife is listed as Minnie so that fits with the first name of the
bride in this marriage record.
What do you think Al, does this look like a good fit to you?
Thanks, Paul Rekow
