Hi Barbara,
I'm sorry to say that I have no information on this family. I was led to
check the census records for Carroll Co., OH because of a land record that
mentions my ancestor, William Chapman:
- 27-Mar-1857 William and Matilda Chapman (of Carroll Co., OH) sold land in
Harrison Co., OH to Enos Willet (of Harrison Co., OH).
William and Matilda (Willet) Chapman were living in White Co., IN in 1860
and 1870. The census records state that William was born in Ohio. The
William Chapman living in Carroll Co., OH in 1850 could possibly be my
ancestor but I don't have any further information on the family I found
listed in the 1850 census. This William Chapman in Carroll Co., OH is
supposedly born in PA.
Enos Willet was enumerated in the 1840 Carroll Co., OH census. Enos married
Mary THORLLEY on 23 Jun 1836 in Carroll Co., OH. Then I found an Enos
Willet (48 yrs old) living in Kosciusko Co., IN in 1850. It may be the same
Enow Willet, but the oldest living female in this household (in Indiana) is
an Elmyra (25 yrs old). So if this is the same person, his wife, Mary may
have passed away, or they divorced.
The possible connection is a Charles Chapman found in Harrison Co., OH. He
was enumerated in the census there from 1820 through 1850. In 1850 Charles
is 70 yrs old (b: VA) and living with a Grace Chapman (b: NJ) who is also 70
yrs old. It's possible that this may be William Chapman's father, and that
William was selling his father's land in 1857 after he passed away. This is
only a hunch.
If anyone has any further information on any Chapman or Willet families in
Harrison or Carroll Co., OH or in Indiana with Ohio connections, I would
love to hear from you.
Thanks,
Kelly

I can't find records of my great-great grandfather William Chapman who
married a Margaret and had at least 3 children Sarah (1852), James
(1853) and George Robert (24/06/1857 - my great-grandfather). Could
this be the same William? Do you have any more info. on him?

Kay-I wish I had some info on my family, J. R. is the farthest back I go.
This came from the census-He was b. c1829 in KY. His mother and father both
born in Va. He is not listed in the 1850 census so I guess he had not arrived
in TX by that time. He did purchase some land
in Bell Co. in 1854 and married in 1855. I can't even find out when he died
but I believe it was around 1903. Will let you know if I learn anything.

Robert,
Sorry for the delay in replying. Committed to too
many other projects right now to do any justice to

Columbiana County Ohio census for 1840 listed a David
Chapman on p. 200, in Wellsville. A copy from the
Columbiana County, Ohio Marriages, 1800-1870, listings
state: CHAPMAN, David, of Wellsville, Oh & Lydia
MARQUIS, of Beaver Boro. m 12 Juse 1837 by Reb. A.O.
Patterson. This must have been printed in the Western
Argus, Beaver County PA issue 14 June 1837, as it was
written after the marriage announcement.
There is also a James Chapman on pg 374 in Y.C.
Township, in 1840 census.
Also a Richard Chapman and family onpg. 56 for Hanover
twp., 1840 Columbiana County and pg. 451 Center Twp.,
Columbiana County 1830 census, and pg. 82 1820 census.
Supposedly this same Richard is listed in the Athens
County census for 1850 according to some information I
found on rootsweb.com posted by a Stephen Smith, who
has a web address that is unreachable.
There is also listed in the marriage index the
following although I only copied the one page:

THE ABOVE MAY BE THE SAME OLIVER I FOUND A BIRTHDATE
FOR ON ROOTSWEB FOR ON STEPHEN SMITHS LISTINGS. IT
WAS LISTED AS AUGUST 3, 1818. I BELIEVE STEPHEN MAY
HAVE HAD HIM LISTED AS RICHARD'S SON.
Chapson, John A & Mary McGittigen: m 1 Aug by Reb.
Joshua Monroe, JAC & MM both of Wellsville Oh (Beaver
PA Argus 9 Aug 1854)
Don't know if the above fellow could have been
misspelled, so I included him here.
I am also sending this on to the CHAPMAN-L as someone
there may recognize a name or two. If anyone does,
please contact me if they know anything on that
particular person. I am still looking for a
relationship for John Hall Chapman, who is listed here
in the marriage listings as John W. Our family
information never listed a W. at all on anything, but
it is all the correct info, including the bride!!
Interestingly enough, I did a search on John Hall and
came up with a John Hall who lived in Lycoming County
PA at the same time my John Hall Chapman was born. He
also had a son, named John Hall, born April 26, 1815,
one month before my John was born on May 25, 1815. Is
that eerie or what? Still no other connections.
I'm sure it will all fall in place someday!! thanks
for your help. Will let you know if I come across
your George anywhere while looking!

I have a John Chapman that supposedly came to Louisiana in the 1790's from Ohio. He was probably married to a Marie Therese Laviolette or Marie Therese Fauvelle. Fauvelle was her mother's maiden name. I would like to find his parents.
