Melinda,
I don't think our Elizabeth Chapman's are the same.
My Elizabeth went by the name "Lib". She married
William Hammer in 1869 and lived in Portland Indiana
for many years. The names of her children wre Ethel
Maude and Howard Clark Hammer. Have you tried the
CHAPMAN-L at rootsweb.com for a connection on
Elizabeth? From what I can tell of our history, she
would be the only one in my line, but she wasn't born
until 1840. Keep in touch with me and if I come
across your Eliza. anywhere else, I'll let you know.
thanks for replying!! Kim

Chapman, age 48 years from Connecticut, Elizabeth
Chapman, age 45 years, Constant H., age 25 years
(Male), Mary E., age 22 years, George, age 16 years,
Theiset K., age 12, Electal E., age 5 years, Henry C.
Chapman, age 40 years, born Connecticut, Elaisa, age

I found this information on John C. Chapman & Albert P. Chapman in a
book on the 1882 history of Plumas county, CA. Hope it helps someone.

John C. Chapman is a native of Ohio. He learned the trade of smelting,
and was engaged in smelting copper near Iron Mountain, Missouri, in
1852, when he started overland to California. On their arrival he and
his brothers settled on a ranch in American valley, but John did not
succeed, and moved to Indian valley. Here he tried farming, but though
a very industrious and temperate man, he failed to make his husbandry
pay. He then built a furnace for the smelting and manufacture of copper,
in Genesee valley, and this enterprise failed for the want of ore. In
1869 he was put in nomination by the democratic convention for county
treasurer, and defeated James C. Gentry by a large majority. He was
re-elected in 1871, again in 1873, also in 1875, and was put in for a
fifth term in 1877. Late in the year 1879, he resigned the office
because of a deficiency in his accounts (see article on Finances), and
retired to private life. His successor was Dr. L.F. Cate, who was
appointed in January, 1879, to fill the unexpired term.
Page 265: Chapman, Albert P.
Albert Pickett Chapman, the subject of this sketch is the son of Horace
Chapman, and was born November 9, 1816. He is a lineal descendant of
Robert Chapman, one of the first settlers of Saybrook, Connecticut, who
came from Hull, England, to Boston in the year 1635. His ancestors were
sea-going people. When a lad of thirteen he learned the tailor's trade,
which he followed nearly twenty years, and for five years carried on a
business in Boston under the firm name of Haskell & Chapman. He started
for California February 8, 1849, sailing around the Horn on the ship
Rodolph, and was two hundred and nineteen days on the voyage. Early in
June, 1850, with George F. Kent, William E. Jones, or Paul Jones, he
discovered Sierra valley, and located his present ranch the next year.
In December of 1851, Mr. Chapman returned east, but came back the
following year, via Panama. Prior to this time he had been extensively
engaged in mining, and was president of the Buttes Quartz Company. Upon
his return he went to Sierra valley, in July, and put up a cabin on the
ground now covered by his residence. During the year 1852, Mr. Chapman
opened a livery stable at Downieville, where the Armory stable now
stands. This he sold in 1862, and removed with his family to his valley
home, where he has since resided. He was married October 1, 1843, to
Miss Caroline S. Chapman, daughter of George Chapman. His wife belongs
to the ninth generation of Chapmans in this country, and he to the tenth
generation of another branch of descent. They have had two sons, Albert
Franklin Chapman, born July 13, 1844, and Charles Chapman, born March
28, 1848. Albert
F. Chapman was married April 5, 1868, to Theresa M. Secritan and their
children are Martha Washington, Albert Julius, Carrie Aime (deceased),
and Clarence Poysingian. Our subject is a member of Susanville Lodge No.
140, I.O.O.F., and of Blue Range Encampment at Downieville. He was first
initiated into the order in Boston in 1846.

Hello,
I am needing help!
My great great great grandparents was George Jr.Chapman
and Francis Eddy married Sept. 19,1791 in Bath Co. VA
They had the following children:
1. George Jr. Chapman born @ 1794-1804
2. Joseph Chapman, born 1794 in SC
3. Edmond Chapman, born 1797 in VA (my g-great grandfather)
4. Benjamin Chapman, born @ 1802 in Bath Co. VA
5. William Chapman? born: around 1802-1804
6. Unknown Son born 1804-1810
7. Unknown Daughter born 1804-1810
8. Unknown Daughter born 1804-1810
Does anyone know the names of the other children?
What happen to them?
I know they moved around a lot. They finally settled in Russell County, VA 1820
But the children moved off before the 1850 Census. Edmond moved to Lee Co. VA sometime before the 1840 Census,
and had my great grandfather Lafayette Chapman, 1848.
Sincerely,
Molly Chapman Arvai
Thank you so much for checking....did they have the children's names....would
there
have been a daughter Oleta born in 1918 or 1919?.....that is the only thing I
am sure of
is her name and approximate age.
No rush ....I appreciate how busy our lives get.
Thanks again
Shirly
For all of you interested in the Chapman History Book, I do know that Ira
Chapman does not have any more as my cousin called him on Saturday and he
said he had just sold the last one. SORRY. Doris
p.s. He told her he had no plans for another book as he was getting too old.
He also said there are no plans to get more copies of this book published.
Shirley, I have in the book an Ira Thomas Chapman that in 1931 was appointed
Chief of Police in Kannapolis, NC. He married Nancy Louise Wham on April 12,
1914. That is the oly thing I can find about someone in the book being in
the police department, I hope this helps. If this is the one you are looking
for let me know and I will give you there children and what ever else you
need if it is in the book. Doris
