I decided to check ou the VT vitals and ordered a FHC film on the Chapmans.
I have a possible connection with the Chapmans from Addison Co. Vt. - late
1700's/early 1800's. Thanks, Kathy Lockard

I have found out more info on my Chapman's and would like some help, please.
I talked to my mom, she seems to think they just landed there and never came
from anywhere. So here is the info I have.
Iisc (Issac) Henry m. Adelia (unknown)
JennyBelle Henry b. ? d. Lewiston Idaho m. LeRoy Chapman
notes: Jenny went by Jane Genieve because she was ashamed of her name.
It is definately not Western.
LeRoy had a sister by the name of Irene Chapman who married a Thatcher. Most
of the Chapmnds as she stated are buried in Holy Cross Cemetery in Spokane
Washington.
JennyBelle had a sister named Alice Henry and she is to be buried at Holy
Cross Cemetery also.
Hope I hit on someones memory banks.

Having descended from the Giles Co., VA Chapmans, and noting the somewhat
boastful comment that "Virgina Chapmans rule," I would point out that by
1910 there was not a single Chapman with the name left in Giles Co.,
VA...they may have ruled but not in that portion of Virginia. Robert L.

I think enough Chapmans must have ended in Washington to sink the
state! My gr-grandfather's brother, Randall Chapman moved first from
Otsego County NY to Livingston County. Then when his older son returned
from the Civil War, they moved to Macomb MI. Then the families of one of
the sons moved to Snohomish Washington, after the son had visited and said

Kim,
That's the Bird Chapman I was looking for! Thanks! I'm glad to know where
he went. The county history just said he had been admitted to the bar and I
couldn't find anything more about him. Now I know why.

I don't know if you are familiar with this website but I found it quite
useful for my IL Chapmans:
http://www.cyberdriveillinois.com/cgi-bin/archives/marriage.s
It's the llinois Statewide Marriage Index, 17631900. If your Chapmans
were in Illinois, you may find them here.

Looking for additional information, ancestors,
brothers, sisters, etc on the following Chapman:
George W. Chapman
b. 1816 Rensselaer County, New York
d. August 9, 1895 Linn County, Missouri
buried in Parsons Creek Cemetery, Linn Co. Missouri
m. Ruth Wentworth Abt. 1836 probably in Steuben
County, New York, daughter of Rice Wentworth and Nancy
Stuart. She was born September 20, 1823 in Jasper,
Steuben County, NY and died September 30, 1862,
possibly in Branch County, Michigan.
They had the following children:
Esther Ann b. 1841 Jasper, Steuben Co. NY
Stephen Wentworth b. 1843 Jasper, Steuben Co. NY
Rice Wentworth b. 1845 Naples, Ontario Co. NY
Amos J. b. 1837 or 1846 in Michigan or possibly
Ontario Co, NY
Olive N. b. 1848 Ontario Co. NY
Loretta D. b. 1850 Steuben Co. NY
George E. b. 1852 Naples, Ontario Co. NY
Mary E. b. 1854 Ontario Co. NY
William Eugene b. 1857 Missouri
In the July 4, 1855 Census the family was living in
Naples, Ontario County, NY
Upon the death of Ruth Wentworth Chapman, George W.
married Mary M. Manning January 12, 1865 in Branch
County, Michigan. Shortly after they must have made
the permanent move to Missouri. Mary was born 1835 and
died March 25, 1914 and is also buried in Parsons
Creek Cemetery.
There are many Chapmans buried in Parsons Creek
Cemetery, and they are all from the same seed. I made
the trip last August to visit the graves. The cemetery
is in Linn County, which is next to Livingston County.
The Chapmans lived in both areas.
Another note is that the Amos Chapman mentioned above
was married to Mary Longneck, a granddaughter of Chief
Black Kettle. He was killed by General Custer. They
were Cheyenne Indians and lived in the Kansas-Oklahoma
area.
If you have any info I would appreciate it. The above
is just a basic outline.
Thank you
Keith Buck
George W. Chapman and Ruth Wentworth Chapman would be
my great great grandparents.

I am still looking for information re Francis Chapman. I had earlier found
him listed in the 1624 muster at Paces Paines/James Citty. just recently
found in that muster under his name corne,10 bushells; peece,1; Swine,1;
house,1. This makes sense because he had been granted 100 acres of land
there.
I had seen him listed as the son in law of Capt. Perry. I have now read
that he was married to the daughter of Richard and Isabella Pace. Capt.
Perry married the widow of Richard Pace.
I still think he is the father of Charles Chapman married to Ann Day, but
have no proof. Can anyone add or shed any light.
thanks
Kathy, nice to hear from you. Unfortunately, all I know about the Pruitt
name is that my Great Uncle Lee Chapman married Nellie Pruitt. Sure wished I
knew more and could help you. I am stuck on the Chapman line. Seems it goes
only so far and no one knows anything about them. Good luck to you on your
searches. God Bless! Nancy
Mary,
I don't know any more than this but I have a Thomas Chapman, who was born about
1812 could he be your Thomas' son? He was born in NY and then migrated to IL

Nancy -
We've talked before on our Chapman line (you've also chatted with my aunt, Penny Todd). This time I'm interested in your Pruitt line. My mom's line is either related to the Pruitt's or Truitt's and I was wondering if you had any info on your
Nellie.
Thanks for any help.

Hello,
for all of you researching Chapmans in VT, have you checked VT vitals on
microfilm? These films are available to rent through your FHC.
They are wonderful--when I started my research all I knew was that my gr gr
grandmother was Amelia Ann Chapman born 1845 in Coventry VT. I ordered the
film that had what I thought was just her birth record. To my surprise these
VT vitals cover ALL Chapmans (or whatever name you are searching) for
specific time frames. A word of warning--records are not complete of
course--these are records that the towns sent to the state so of course
everyone is not listed. The first series covers Early (late 1700's)--1870,
the second series starts in 1871 but don't remember the cut-off date.
These are really fabulous because they are arranged alphabetically (first by
last name, then by first name) not by town--you don't have to know where your
folks came from in VT. You can always contact the individual towns to see if
they have other records for your family--not everything was sent to the
state. For me this was a great resource because Coventry lost all their
early records in a fire in 1913! This was my only chance to find certificates
on my family.
Just to give you an idea--I went to Amelia's birth record on the film and
here are all the records I found in the Early-1870:
Amelia Ann CHAPMAN--birth listed parents Amasa W. CHAPMAN and Isabel
PLASTRIDGE
Amelia's Marriage Cert--Bride's Card --we did not have my gr gr
grandfather's first name or the marriage date
Her parent's marriage cert listing their parents! Amasa W. CHAPMAN's parents
were Samuel CHAPMAN and Sarah SANBORN
Amelia's father died at age 46 so he is in this series--also lists that Amasa
W. CHAPMAN was born in Littleton NH giving me more clues
I found ALL this in 5 minutes and the cost was $3.50 to rent the film. Later
I rented the 1871--? series and got several records for Amelia's brother
Charles and his family, death of her brother John, and the death of her
grandfather Samuel CHAPMAN born 1792 or so though his death cert did not
list parents.
Sorry for the length of this message but I hope it will help someone on the
list.
