Toby,
If you know the name of his spouse, it may be helpful to include also.

Since we probably have some new list members, I'd like to send out a
distress call to locate the whereabouts of descendants of my father's
much older half-sisters. They were from my grandfather's first
marriage, as follows: James W. CHAPMAN, born 1844 in Washington County,
Ohio married Emma MACE in Athens County, Ohio in 1866. They moved to
Pittsburgh, PA where Emma gave birth to five children. I believe only
two, both daughters, survived childhood: Allie Chapman, born in
February, 1867 and Annie Chapman, born ca 1875. (The mother, Emma Mace,
died in 1878 and James married twice more while living in PA.) Nothing
is known of the the two daughters after their father moved the rest of
the family to Doddridge County, WV in the early 1890s so I assume they
had married and opted to stay in the Pittsburgh area. Thanking you in
advance for any bits of info on Allie Chapman, born 1867 and Annie, born
1875. Patty Chapman Pulasky
It would sure help if you would put in locations. Thanks,Clyde

Marsha:
My email to you ( at <marligan@outerbounds>) has been bouncing, so I'm
using the list to give you a couple of things. The note I was sending was
about that Abigail Church marriage to a Zenas Chapman. In my organization I
came across it again, and just in case I hadn't let you know:
"I just came across a letter I wrote in 1977. Don't know if I'd sent you
this information, but I think I did. No harm to repeat it.
I'd found a copy of a Church Family Record (in DAR records at NYSHA in
Cooperstown), which said that Abigail Church, b 1808, daughter of Origen
Church, married Zenas Chapman. No date.
I'd inquired of a Harold A. Church, but he had no information. "
Now the other thing is, that I've been organizing my Chapman data and
-hallelujah! - just sent off to NYSHA in Cooperstown a pack of pedigrees,
individual summaries, ancestors, descendants and so on, of my Ezekiel
Chapman (b 1741, CT). It included many of the collateral families, Pier,
Robinson, Babbitt, Westcott, Stewart/Stuart and so on.
In looking at Ezekiel's children, I see that his son Warham had a Zenas.
Warham was b 19 Mar 1783 in Westfield, Hapmpshire County, MA, d 13 Sep 1820
Nelson, Madison County NY. He m Thankful ____ who was b bef 1785, d
unknown. But as you see from the only notes she remarried, so if this Zenas
is yours, you might find a connection through her second husband:
Notes for Warham:
1805, June, Warham Chapman of Marcellus, NY bought 50 acres of Lot 43 in
Marcellus by mortgage from Philip Van Courtland for $167.50. He paid off
the mortgage in 1806.
1810 Census Warham listed.
1812, Feb, Warham and Thankful Chapman sold that land in to Jude Comstock
who lived next to Tracy's in-laws in 1810 census. The 1812 deed names
Warham Chapman of Nelson, Madison County NY.
1820, he died, intestate and in debt, leaving wife Thankful, and 3
children. On 27 Apr 1822 (probate??) the children were recorded as Zenas
L., age abt 14 1/2, Julia Ann 10 yrs 9 mos and Louisa Caroline 3 yrs. By
this date, widow Thankful had m. an Eber or Ebn Lindsley. More information
about his debts, inventory and sale of property is in File #351, Surrogate
Court, Madison County Ny (1820-1823). LDS Film 425301.
Good luck! Jean Chapman Snow
Looking for info on father and mother of Joe, John, Isaac and George Chapman. All born c 1800-1810, likely in Wahalla, Oconee County. Father supposedly lived over 100 years. Most of sons moved to Lumpkin County, Georgia during the Gold Rush.
Common family names are Fields, Henson, Mary Ann and George.

Leona, my Chapmans moved to North Idaho (Nez Perce Co., around Lewiston)
c1893. My ggrandmother Matilda Hall Chapman died in 1933 and is buried in
the Normal Hill Cemetery, Lewiston. She is my only Chapman relative that I
know is buried in that particular cemetery. Who are your Jane's relatives
and how long were they in this area?

On the 1840 census index is Jackson Chapman, but also Benjamin,
Daniel, Enoch, Joel, John, Joshua, Rebecca.
On the 1850 census index is Jackson Chapman, and also Benjamin, D.J.,
Dicy, Edmond, Enoch, Isaac, Jacob, James, Joel, John, Joseph, Joshua,
Lucy, Nancy, Peter P, Priscilla, Rebecca, Samuel, William, William A.
And possibly Enoch Jr.
Probably doesn't help much... wished I had the details of the 1850
and 1840 census for you.
Good luck,

I am looking for information re: Agnes Speed from Monimail. I have that
she died December 19, 1852 in Letham and was the widow of James Chapman.
They had a son James who married Mary Ann McGregor (McGrigor) Sept. 26, 1841
in Arngask, Fife. Son James was born in Monimail and Mary Ann Mcgregor was
born in Newburgh.

You know it is really not our fault that we have no answers for you. Genealogy
is a tedious job at best. Taking others research and not doing it for yourself
is not what many of us call research. I know many o researchers that have been
doing it for more than 30 years. They HAD to rely on books and libraries and
archives. No email there. So I believe that you need to just stick it out.
You never know when someone may show up. No threats Please.
