Thanks Bob,
But my Mary died on Jan 20, 1887 in Dallas County, Missouri. This was where
I found that information. CHATMAN, "Died Jan 20th, widow Chatman of Jasper
Township." (BR 27 Jan 1887).
In Dallas County it seems that they could not read the "p" . At least who
ever transcribed the information. Even in the marriages I have found
CHATMAN, as well as CHAPMAN.

Hello! We are researching the Chapman family, beginning with John
Chapman, who came to America from England with his brothers, Benjamin and
James. We have no specific birth/death dates for these three gentlemen.
But John had 13 children, two of which were Isaac (born 1765), and Adam
(born 1787). When last heard from in 1882, Adam was 95 years old and living
in Ohio.
Isaac had at least 8 children:
Daniel Chapman
Elenius Chapman
Olive Chapman
Rebecca Chapman
Roxy Chapman
Uriah Chapman
Isaac Chapman, b. 1803
Jacob Kimble Chapman, b. 12 March 1803, supposedly in Palmyra, Wayne
County, New York, died 13 December 1870 in Claridon, Geauga County, Ohio. He
is buried in the West Claridon Cemetary in Ohio with his 2cd wife's family.
Her name was Harriet Allen.
There has been some supposition that Jacob joined the Mormon church,
because he seems to have moved his family alot to all of the places they
settled on their way to Salt Lake City.
Jacob had eight children with his first wife, Juliza Griffith:
Sidney Smith Chapman, b. 12 November 1827 in Ashtabula County, Ohio, died
2 October, 1893, Chicago, Illinois
Albert B. Chapman, b. 1831 in Loraine, Ohio
Corydon Carlos Chapman, b. 2 April 1834 in Amherst Corners, Loraine
County, Ohio, died April 1944 in Michigan
Hiram Franklin Chapman, b. 1836, Loraine, Ohio
Barbara A. Chapman, b. 1840, Loraine, Ohio
Emma C. Chapman, b. 1842, Loraine, Ohio
Willard D. Chapman, b. 1844, Loraine, Ohio, d. 22 May 1863, Siege of
Vicksburg
Orson O. Chapman, b. abt. 1845
Children with Harriet Allen:
Sarah Chapman, b. 1848
Clifton K. Chapman, b. 1852, died 3 July 1872, Claridon, Geauga County,
Ohio
We are at a real block wall with Jacob's actual birth location, because
although this date and place are cited in a history book, we cannot find any
evidence to support it. Hoping to get more info on his father and uncles.
Any information regarding any of these family members would be much
appreciated.
Thank-you!
Sally Sloane
I am new to the list and am not sure that I am posting this right but am
going to try. I am researching my husbands family and am stuck on his great
grandparents:
BENJAMIN FRANKLIN CHAPMAN of Barton Cty,Lamar Township, Missouri. I found
him on the 1870 Missouri census, Spouse: SARAH ARNOLD the only other info I
have on them is a son ALBRO ROBERT CHAPMAN born 1897 I also believe that they
may have had a son named FRANK. Does anyone have any info. on this line.
Thank you, Moe

Hi Cousins,
I am looking for a William CHAPMAN, born about 1790 in Tennessee. He married
Mary (Unk) born abt 1793 in Virginia, probably about 1811/1812 either in
Tennessee or Virginia. I have been unable to locate a marriage date. This
family had 9 living children. They left Wilson County, Tennessee about
1837/38 and migrated to Dallas County, Missouri. I have found William
CHAPMAN in the 1840 census for Polk/Dallas Co., and family. In the 1850
census the family is without him. He evidently died before that time. He is
buried in a small cemetery there, but only has a field rock placed to mark
his grave. All of the census say that William was born in Tennessee.
Children of William CHAPMAN and Mary (Unk) are:
1. Elizabeth CHAPMAN b. 1813, md. James Cheek on Feb 6, 1832 in Smith Co.,
TN, moved to Dallas Co., MO in 1836.
2. Elias CHAPMAN b. 1819 md. Mary (Unk) abt 1842/1843
3. Nancy P. CHAPMAN b. 1824 md. Francis S. Wingo on Mar 12, 1846 in Dallas
Co., MO
4. William CHAPMAN b. 1827 md. Mahala (Unk) abt 1848/1849
5. Asberry B. CHAPMAN b. 1828 md. Cynthia Jane Stafford on Jun 22, 1848 in
Dallas Co., MO
6. Isaac J. CHAPMAN b. 1832 md. Sarah Emeline Morrow abt 1856/1857 in Dallas
Co., MO
7. John P. CHAPMAN b. 1836 md. Mahala (Unk) CHAPMAN on Mar 3, 1865 in Dallas
Co., MO
8. Eliza Jane CHAPMAN b. 1837 in Wilson Co., TN md. Andrew Jackson Stafford
on Aug. 15, 1852 in Dallas Co., MO
9. Edward Burton CHAPMAN b. 1839 in Dallas Co., MO, md Mary Ellen Thomas on
Oct 4, 1865. Divorced and md. Delilah (nee White) Hembree on Jan 18, 1879 in
Dallas Co., MO
William is my Brick Wall. I would like to know who his parents were, and
also his wife's maiden name and who her parents were.

I've finally caught my breath from my trip back East in June. I was so
thrilled to finally find the 3 gals mentioned in Zenas Chapman's will!
(among other things)
I always figured these three had to be Zenas' grandchildren, but was unable
to find anything about them. His will (actually, the probate) mentions:
Emeline Bliss, wife of Seth Bliss
Lucy Fay, wife of John Fay
Mary Vibben, wife of Israel
My first morning at NYSHA (the NY State Historical Association), I pulled
out the Chapman file to find my own data left there in 1977. ALSO a
pedigree chart for my father's cousin, about whom we had some family tales,
but not much by way of data. So hit #1.
Then I pulled out a Taylor/Fay file. In it I found a family group sheet
with Emeline, Lucy and Mary! There they are, I thought. But then I was
dumbstruck. They were not Chapmans, but Riders, though the dates (I'd
gotten some from Schuyler Lake Cemetery records online were the same). I
noticed their mother's name, Catherine Chapman, b Exeter, Otsego County NY,
only a birth date, no parents. Hmm, I'd thought. One of those OTHER Chapman
lines. So I went back to my motel rather disappointed.
At two AM (I kid you not) I awoke and the dates went through my mind. I
turned on the light and checked the birth dates for Catherine and Zenas'
daughter Katherine. Identical! But our Katherine was b in Otsego, not
Exeter. And we'd always thought she must have died young, perhaps even in
childbirth or shortly after. We don't know when her mother Anna, died, just
that it was between 1803 (Katherine's birth) and 1812, when Zenas remarried.
But Katherine/Catherine lived, and had children!! Well, I'll tell you, no
more sleep that night. I entered the info into the laptop I'd rented (what
a good idea that was!) and just kept staring at it. I'd found Katherine, no
matter how her name was spelled, and Emeline, Lucy and Mary. Hit #2.
And if I had not used RootsWeb to look at cemetery records I wouldn't have
had the dates and places to make the connection. Hurrah for RootsWeb and
the Chapman-List and the Chapman Web site and all those goodies! Jean

There is a book written by Allen Chapman, 1913, titled "Fred Fenton on the

A little cemetery north east of Weimar_ Osage Cemetery seeking the names and
obits of all
known burials there. They are in the process of seeking funds to erect a
cenotaph in the cemetery naming all of those buried there without remaining
markers. Rev. Abner Chapman and his first wife Jimmie are among those.
His father and mother have markers.
The following is what I have in my records. WM stands for Weimar Mercury
and CCC for Colorado County Citizen two local newspapers. Hope this helps.
If you would like to contribute the the erection of the cenotaph it would
be appreciated.

Borden) died at the family residence in the first-named city the first of
the week and was brought here, en route to Osage, for burial Wednesday
morning. It was the intention to arrive here with the body Tuesday
afternoon but on account of failure to make railroad connection at Eagle
Lake, the funeral party was delayed. Mrs. Chapman was well-known and
popular throughout this section, and her death is sincerely regretted. Our
deepest sympathy goes out to the bereaved husband in his affliction.
9 June 1906 WM
After a lingering illness Geo. S. Chapman of the Osage Community
passed into the great beyond at 11 o'clock last Wednesday night. Mr.
Chapman is one of Colorado County's oldest and most sincere characters and
has devoted friends every where in this part of Texas, who have received
the news of his departure with sincere regret. He is the father of seven
children, six boys and one girl, all of whom are grown and reside in this
county. He is also an uncle of our townsman, S. D. Chapman. Funeral
services were conducted by Rev. J. E. Buck at the grave in the Osage
cemetery at 4 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. To the grieved ones the

DEATH OF MRS CHAPMAN-- BURIED AT OSAGE
Mrs. Chapman, widow of the late Geo. Chapman, an old-time resident
of the Osage community, died Friday last at the home of her son, J. L.
Chapman, at Garwood, and the remains were brought to Osage Saturday
afternoon and laid to rest. Mrs. Chapman was about 75 years of age at the
time of her death, and had been in ill health for some time past, hence her
death was not unexpected. Several sons and one daughter survive. Mrs.
Chapman, during her residence in the Osage community ever proved a good
friend and neighbor, is still favorably remembered by many of the old-time
residents of that section, and her death is deeply and sincerely deplored.
Our deep sympathy goes out to the bereaved ones.

Taking a rest, Peggy. I'm still here...and am looking for my Elisha W.
Chapman, my Ggrandfather who was born in Morgan County, OH.
Folks, from time to time, the posts shift from one area of the country to
another. Chapmans are wide spread, and no one area will be the center of
conversations all of the time!!
Remember that this list is shared by Chapmans from all over the USA.....And
there IS a Chapman UK list also! :)

In the book" Revolutionary War Patriots of Frederick County,Md." I found at
the Seattle Gen Soc. It has this info:
ABRAHAM CHAPMAN,Private who enlisted July 25,1776. ( Ref. A-50)
NATHAN CHAPMAN,Corporal in Cap't SAMUEL PLUMMER'S Company of Militia in 1775.
( Ref. E-54)
I found this recently; Lincoln County Kentucky. Will book A; EDWARD CHAPMAN
dated 26 July 1788. Mentions a wife,unnamed; sons: EDWARD,WILLIAM,LEWIS.
Daughter SALLY. Witnesses: ISAAC FARRIS,BENJAMIN TALBERT,JERUSHA LOVAS &
DANIEL CHAPMAN Pro. 16 September 1788. He is not mine,Clyde
In the tax lists for Lincoln County,Ky I found this:
DANIEL CHAPMAN, 5-17-1790
DANIEL Jun. " " " "
RICHARD " 5-16-1790
SARA " " " "
Wm. " " " "
Perhaps this SARAH was the Widow of EDWARD. The only other name that fits
into the will of EDWARD is WILLIAM so there may have been another family of
CHAPMANS there. This DANIEL Sen.,RICHARD and possibly WILLIAM may have been
brothers of DANIEL Sen. Usually these tax books give the water course where
they had land if they did,but this book did not, There are probably tax books
on film you can order through the LDS which might give more info on them.
Also on this list were:
DEANN CHAPMAN in Fayette County 2-3-1789
DIANA " " " " 1-11-1790
WILLIAM in Bourbon County 3-1791
Wm. in Jefferson County 8-11-1790
That is all,Clyde
In Woodford County,Ky Wiils I found this:
Will of PHILEMPN RICHARDS in Will book A,p. 123 dated 19 May 1794 recorded
October 1794. Mentions wife,but no name. Daughter SARAH w/o DANIEL JAMES;
son LEWIS RICHARDS;son BENJAMIN RICHARDS; son PHILEMON RICHARDS; son WILLIAM
RICHARDS; daughter ANN CHAPMAN; daughter LUCY w/o GILBERT CHRISTIAN. The
Executors were: PHILEMON RICHARDS, DANIEL JAMES & GILBERT CHRISTIAN. The
Witnesses: TURNER RICHARDSON,MATT CHRISTIAN & BENJAMIN CHAPMAN. ( Perhaps he
was the husband of his daughter ANNE CHAPMAN)
These are not mine,Clyde
