County Illinois. Her parents were Rielly (Riley) and Angeline (McCombs)
Chapman. I am looking for Stephen (Stephan) from Calloway County Tennessee.
Thanks, Nancy
Thanks, Kathy....
I'll forward this to Gil, and he'll be in touch with you. :)

When Virginia cast it's lot with the Confederacy, the settlers west of the
Alleghenies began to complain loudly, so a separate government for the
western section was organized in 1861 under the name of Kanawha. Two years
later(1863) West Virginia was admitted into the Union as the thirty-fifth

Hi, Where is your Elisha Chapman from? What year?
Jane
Hang on in there Mari, You just never know.
I've been doing electronic genealogy for a LONG time, at least 15 yrs (my
submission is in WFT 3). And while I have picked up a lot of info and
connections on my wife's family, mine has been pretty much a miss. All I had
to show for it was just one generation back on my fathers mother's side from
what I had in the family bible. Nothing at all on my mothers side. But a
couple weeks back I got an email from someone who had seen a previous
posting (to another family forum) and sent a link to the census info showing
one of her grandparents who I had no info on, when she was one month old,
giving another generation, AND further info on both parents AND
grandparents. Wow! 2 new generations and lots of leads, all from a
broadcast query, that was out there quite a while.....
So keep looking and (re)posting, you never know when someone who has the
lead you need may read a post and contact you.
Thanks for all the hard work with this list, and the pages, and good luck on
your search.
Now if only that someone with info on Miles Ross Chapman (from MS) would
contact me, maybe I could get that chapman hint I need 8-)

Formation of Kentucky Counties
Most of the land that is now known as Kentucky was part of Virginia in the
1700s. Fincastle County, Virginia, created in 1772, encompassed land in
present-day Virginia, as well as most of Kentucky. In 1776, a part of
Fincastle County was taken to form Kentucky County, Virginia. The Virginia
legislature divided Kentucky County in 1780 to form the counties of Fayette
By the time Kentucky became a state in 1792, nine counties had been created:
Nelson in 1785; Bourbon, Madison, and Mercer in 1786; and Mason and Woodford
in 1789. Useful genealogical material dating from the 1780s may be found in
these early counties.
The land west of the Tennessee River was claimed by the Chickasaw Indians,
who relinquished the land through a treaty with the United States in 1818.
Gov. Isaac Shelby and Gen. Andrew Jackson represented the United States in
the negotiations. The Kentucky land became known as the Jackson Purchase.
With the formation of McCreary County in 1912, all of Kentucky's 120 counties
were created.

Does anyone know why names are listed like this? I.E. Chapman, andrews and skidmore together? could these have been young boys doing apprenticeships or working at these locations.
I list the hill name because they married into the Chapmans in this area. I feel these could have been children of some of my chapmans, but I cannot place them.

I have two John Chapmans in my line that this could fit.
yesterday I spent the day at the Library looking for new info on Francis, or Charles Chapman or any of their family--Hill, Bennett, Day from Isle of Wight and Surry Co Va. I came up with a little on them and also some misc. info on other Chapmans not related to me. As I go over what I have I will pass it along to the list. Who knows, it may help some one else. The first is Index to the 1800 census of NC by Elizabeth Petty Bentley. I did not copy all the chapmans there were many.
Benjamin Cum 353; Benjamin Rwn 441; David Cht 207; John Orn 553; John Wlk 31; Soloman Cht 207.
David and Soloman are brothers and the sons of David Chapman and Tabitha Hill--They are my line.
I looked up this name in my data base and found this name. I have info
several generations back, but nothing forward. This is not my line-that I
know of. I have a lot of misc. Chapman info that was given to me. I have
been given permission to share what I have. If anyone wants more info re
this man let me know.
Harry DeWitt Chapman b.28 Jan 1881 in Ga. Father: Abner Thomas Coleman

vicinity of Savannah. Around the middle of May, 1864, the Regiment joined
