None of that sounds familiar at all. My Reuben is the son of Oren B.
CHAPMAN and Penelope GATES. At one time it was thought that Oren B. had
died as a child because of the way the family record was written. In
reality it was his sister who died, not him.
The family you mentioned is probably related, in some way, because they were
all from E. Haddam. However I have Reuben's line way, way back. He's part
of the Robert CHAPMAN line.

My CHAPMAN's migrated to Coosa Co., Alabama from Virginia. However, did you
know anything about a The CHAPMAN's Family Reunion that took place September
3-6, 1999, in Greenville, South Carolina? The host person was Ms. Laura
Brownlee. I will check my files for the name(s) you listed above.
Looking forward to hearing from you.

You may want to look into Isle of Wight County,Va. I think I found a
BENJAMIN CHAPMAN there in the deeds for that county. I posted them on the

Hi Pat
This isn't my line but maybe I have a clue for you...for what it is worth
anyway. You mention both SC and GA. There were a group of Chapman that
lived in SC that a branch of was supposed to have moved to GA....same for a
branch of the KY Chapman's that were supposed to have moved to GA.
The SC branch include the Allen Chapman/Eleanor DeWitt line.
The KY branch include all the Giles and Abner Chapman's that also appear in
early GA.

1870,1880,1890 Grimes County, Texas. There was a Uriah Chapman b. 1824 in
St. Tammany Parish, son of Silas Chapman and Elizabeth Rainwater. Uriah
lived close to Mary G. Chapman Franklin in Grimes County in about 1870 or
so. Both Uriah and Mary list their father as having been born in
Kentucky.(Uriah lists his mother Elizabeth Rainwater from Georgia. Mother's
birth for my Mary was left blank on the census.) However, on a census of
Silas, he lists S.C.as his birthplace. Anyway, there is a possibility
that Uriah could be Mary's brother...certainly a cousin I would believe.
This Silas Chapman was in La. on the 1820 census so he could be Mary's
father. I note that on a familytreemaker volume #1...they are listed with 5
sons but no daughters are listed. !

Hi all. Well, I guess its time again to put my brickwall out for
climbing.......
James T. Chapman was born 1826 (from 1860 census of Henry Co., TN). Can
find no references to Chapman's in 1850 census for Henry Co., TN or other;
however, that doesn't mean they weren't there. Or, they could have been
elsewhere prior to being recorded in TN. James was supposed to have been
born in TN though.
He was married to Susannah H. (surname unknown) about 1850. Have found no
other reference to this family group in earlier records....thus far anyway.
I suspect that they were from the Montgomery Co., TN and Henry Co., TN area
originally and that is why I'm interested in Clyde's Benjamin Chapman who
had a son who was born in Henry Co., TN in 1822 (son was named Matthew). I
also suspect that Benjamin Chapman was a brother of a Andrew Jackson
Chapman, also of TN.
My James T. Chapman had the following children....again all info known from
census records.
Mary Ann Chapman b. 1852
Benjamin Franklin Chapman b. 1854
Francis Andrew Jackson Chapman b. 1856
DeWitt C. Chapman b. 1858
Ruby or Marie Chapman b. 1861
James Thurston Chapman b. 1863
I descend from James Thurston Chapman. James Thurston Chapman (b. 1863)
married Lee Ella McCarter (daughter of James McCarter and Emily Shepherd) in
Clarksville, Montgomery, TN in 1885. I have the children and their
descendants from this couple; however, I'd be very interested in finding out
about any of the James T. Chapman/Susannah H. descendants of which I know
nothing.
Thanks for any help that you can offer. By the way.....early Henry Co., TN
records were just thrown away several years ago and few if any government
documents survived that period of "cleaning house" so I'm pretty much left
with family records for those inbetween generations.

Dear Mari, you are very justified in what your wrote. Thank the good Lord
there are still people in our country that will take a stand for what they
believe in. Sincerely, Nancy
Sorry folks, should have included all info in previous post:
There is a James Chapman on the 1820 LCT census, household includes:
(1) male 26-45; (2) females under 10, (1) female 10 - under 16, (1) female
26 - 45
There is a James Chapman listed on the Giles Co., TN 1830 index but I don't
have the actual census data.
No James Chapman in 1830 in Lincoln Co.
James Coalter of Lauderdale Co., AL was administrator of estate of James
Chapman 27 Nov 1826 in Lincoln Co., TN. (Coalter sold slaves that appeared
to be in James' estate)
I have found NO land transactions for James in Lincoln Co., TN.
Does anyone know anything about a James Chapman in Lincoln Co?

Just 'cause you asked, Mari.
Question may have been answered already, but, if so, I missed the answer.
Does anyone have data on the families of Nathaniel, Samuel and/or John
Chapman (sons of Edward Chapman and Mary Symonds)? Thanks.

Am looking for Charity Chapman. Supposedly born in 1850 in CT. Found her
in the 1855 WI State census with her parents, Henry and Clarissia
Chapman and in the 1860 Federal Census for WI. Lost her after that!
Found Henry and Clarissia back in CT in 1880 with their son, but no
daughter. No record of any of them, so far, in 1870 federal census.
