Walter, I did the next best thing. I forwarded that tidbit on to two sons
and a nephew who are western lovers. I am still in VA with Jacob Chapman,

Keep seeing William Chapman name
coming up. There must be a lot of Williams. My great great grandfather's
name was William. As soon as My aunt in Houston,TX sends me her reaserch
efforts
on the Chapmans I'll have his middle name. His daughter (at least one)
was my grandmother, Mary Orlena Chapman who married John Wilson. The
wilsons lived in Texas all their lives. Mary Orlena Chapman had at least
one brother named Walter Chapman and he lived for many years near
Georgetown, Texas. There are quite a few of this Chapman line buried in
the Liberty Hill, Texas cemetary and also around Florence, Texas which
is in the area. There is a Raymond Chapman living at Rockdale, TX and
one of my kinfolks as
was all the Chapmans around the George-
town, Texas. They had inventive abilities in mechanical things. The
Robert mentioned above is about 70-75 years of age.
It is interesting that I did'nt receive any coments when I mentioned
about the
Chapman/Billy the Kid incident. Any Chapmans in our downline would have
heard about it. Guess that demonstrates
how the tribes branch our into huge numbers.

Hi Clyde and all, I have a fairly good listing of some of the Chapmans that
you listed for Greenup Co, KY. James and Phoebe (Pearce) Chapman had the
following children Rueben, Lucy, Josiah, John, Anderson, Martin, Sarah,
Frances, Henry, William, Greenup, and Mary. James, Phoebe and family moved
to the Greenup Co, KY area abt 1799. Most of them had moved across the
river to Scioto Co, OH between 1820 and 1830. The list of children was
researched by a Ira Allen Chapman, a grandson of Josiah, in the early 1900
and written down in a book to his son in 1909. This list matches fairly
well with the children that were dispersed money from James' estate when he
died in 1839.
There is no Aquilla Chapman mentioned in any of the information that I
have been able to find so far on the family of James Chapman. Thats not to
say that he wasn't related to some of the other Chapman's that you
mentioned. If I can be of anymore help please let me know. Thanks, Paul

I spent some time yesterday at the Seattle public library. They have a very
good genealogy section. I was looking for CHAMANS of Maryland,Indiana and
Maryland. To begin with Maryland I found several items of interest. One was
a list of people transported to Maryland from England. It gives the year and
the county they were sent to. The CHAPMANS were:
ROBERT 1685 to Kent County *
JOHN 1703 P.G. ( Prince George)
THOMAS 1704 Charles
RICHARD 1718 Kent SILAS
1723/4 Somerset +
EDWARD 1730 Charles
JEREMIAH 1732 Ann Arundel
WILLIAM 1740 Charles
RICHARD 1745 Charles
SARAH 1748 Queen Anne
RICHARD 1760 Dorchester
WILLIAM 1763 Ann Arundel
MARGARET 1763 Charles
JAMES 1767 Talbot
SAMUEL 1767 Ann Arunde
ELIZABETH 1769 Baltimore
* ROBERT CHAPMAN left a will dated 3 April 1685,pro. 11 October 1685. To
THOMAS & WILLIAM TALLY children of WALTER & ELIZABETH,at 21 years of age &
their heirs,220 acres, part of "Hinchingham" bought of EDWARD LLOYD.
To WALTER TALLY Jr. said land in event of death of his brothers,THOMAS &
WILLIAM aforesaid without issue.
To JOHN,GEORGE & MARY TALLY personality.
WALTER TALLY Sen. as Executor. Witnesses: M.MILLER,EBENEZER
BLACKSTONE,RICH'D LOUDER & JN'O PERSIFULL. ( It seems strange that ROBERT
wrote his will so soon after arriving in Maryland. Perhaps it was the same
man,but perhaps not.)
+ SILAS CHAPMAN of Somerset County left his will dated 25 December 1723,pro.
30 January 1723/4. To sons EDWARD,SILAS,JOHN,HUMPHREY,and PEARCE 1 Shilling
each.,son JOSEPH 100 acres "Temple". son BENJAMIN and his heirs, plantation
and 300 acres, should said son die without issue, then to pass to son PEARCE.
Wife MARY as Executrix, 1/3 of cattle, residue to wife and child equally.
Should wife marry, sons JOSEPH & BENJAMIN of age at 18 years. Otherwise to
remain with her until 21.Overseers: JOHN GILLETT Sr. and SAMUEL
GILLETT.Witnesses: JOHN GILLETT,ARCHIBALD GREEIR,ELIZABETH WALKER & JOHN
GILLETT Jun. ( The transport records do not mention if there were other
family members who were with them or not. It is possible that this was the
same SILAS.)
I found some other info on the MARYLAND CHAPMANS,too, but I will need a
little time to try and sort them out.
Now for Greenup County,Ky. I feel that this is where me AQUILLA CHAPMAN was
born,or perhaps I should say he was possibly born in Mason County, which was
the mother country of Greenup. He was born in 1801 and Greenup was created
in 180-4. This is what makes research in Kentucky so much fun. They kept
creating new counties.
JAMES was I believe the father of AQUILLA and there was a JAMES CHAPMAN
there.
In the LDS film # 343995 I found Greenup County marriages.
MARTIN CHAPMAN & NANCY ULIN 26 March 1817. BENJAMIN ULIN f/o NANCY gave
consent.
REUBEN CHAPMAN & NANCY FUQUA 28 July 1809. JOHN MACKEY bondsman. ( I found
some more info on her parents and ancestors if anyone is interested in the
FUQUAS )
SUSAN CHAPMAN & GEORGE DERBY 12 May 1858, JOHN HOWELL bondsman.
LUCY CHAPMAN & JOHN LITTLEJOHN, 17 November 1808, REUBEN CHAPMAN,bondsman.
JA'S CHAPMAN gave consent. ( This indicates that JAMES CHAPMAN was the
father of SUSAN and possibly also the father of REUBEN.
In Mason County marriages I found at the Seattle library:
POLLY CHAPMAN & KIRK PLUMMER 12 January 1797. T. BRIAN,bondsman. WILLIAM
CHAPMAN gave consent. Apparently BENJAMIN PLUMMER also gave consent.
Witnesses: WM. KENNAN & ROBERT SMITH.
TABITHA CHAPMAN & Wm. PLUMMER, 3 April 1797. Benjamin Plummer, bondsman.
ELIZABETH CHAPMAN & REUBEN GILL, 24 April 1798. JOHN CHAPMAN bondsman.
In the HOOSIER JOURNAL of ANCESTRY at Seattle Public Library,Vol. 13,pg.
257, Lawrence County marriages.
REBECCA CHAPMAN & WILLIS JONES, 2 April 1825.
Something else I found at the Seattle Public Library is very interesting, but
needs more work. I made a copy of a page from a book, but failed to make note
of which book. It has a list of CHAPMANS who were in Maryland in the 1600'3.
To name a few:
ROBERT CHAPMAN Transported in 1654.THOMAS in 1653, RICHARD in 1665,. There
were 20 names on the list and all but 1 were transported. The other one was
an imigrant.WILLIAM CHAPMAN Jun. Immigrated prior to July 1659.
Another interesting item was, DANIEL CHAPMAN transported in 1662 from Dorset
County.Whether this was where more of them came from remains to be seen.
About 20 years ago I began researching my DOWNINGS in Devon,England. I met a
lady there who was researching the CHAPMANS there, but I did not pursue them.
It may be that some came from there, also.
That is all for now.

I do some biblical genealogy from time to time and it really is
interesting to trace back where the different races, tribes and people
came from.... You can do it quite easily with a good Bible History book.
When you learn where the Jews and Arabs came from and the "wills" that
were left to them , it makes understanding todays current events more
understandable. Sounds a little like some of our Chapman families
doesn't it. When you learn some of the hardships and dissappointments
they had, you begin to understand them.
Also, do not forget to do your MEDICAL genealogy research too ! I
started mine after 3 heart attacks and a stroke. The Dr. told me "It is
all inheirated" so I began my search. I was amazed at what I found on
BOTH sides of my family. One family even had 8 out of 10 in the family
that died with heart disease. The main thing is that these records are
very valuable to your Dr. if you ever have a problem. JUST DO IT ! as
the old saying goes.........
Have a great day,
Thanks for not "tarring and feathering me for my "mistake"
