Christmas poem
=B9Twas the night before Christmas
He lived all alone
In a one bedroom house made of
Plaster and Stone
I had come down the Chimney
With presents to give.
And to see just whom
In this home did live.
I looked all about
A strange sight I did see.
No tinsel, no presents,
Not even a tree.
No stocking by the mantle,
Just boots filled with sand.
On the wall hung pictures
Of far distant lands.
With medals and badges,
Awards of all kinds,
A sober thought
Came through my mind.
For this house was different,
It was dark and dreary,
I found the home of a soldier,
Once I could see clearly.
The soldier lay sleeping,
Silent, alone,
Curled up on the floor
In this one bedroom home.
The face was so gentle,
The room in such disorder,
Not how I pictured
A United States Soldier.
Was this the hero
Of whom I'd just read?
Curled up on a Poncho,
The floor for a bed?
I realized the families
That I saw this night,
Owed their lives to these soldiers
Who were willing to fight.
Soon round the world,
The children would play,
And grownup would celebrate
A bright Christmas Day.
They all enjoyed freedom
each month of the year,
Because of the soldiers,
Like the one lying here.
I couldn't help wonder
How many lay alone,
On a cold Christmas Eve
In a land far from home.
The very thought
Brought a tear to my eye,
I dropped to my knees
And started to Cry.
The soldier awakened
And I heard a rough voice,
"Santa don't cry,
This life is my choice."
The solider rolled over
And drifted to sleep,
I couldn't control it,
I continued to weep.
I kept watch for hours,
So silent and still
And we both shivered
>From the cold night's chill.
I didn't want to leave
On that cold, dark, night,
This guardian of Honor
So willing to fight.
The solider rolled over,
With a voice soft and pure,
Whispered, "Carry on Santa,
It's Christmas Day, All is secure."
One look at my watch,
And I knew he was right.
"Merry Christmas my friend,
And to all a good night."
This poem was written by a Marine stationed in
Okinawa Japan. The following is his request. I think
it is reasonable...
Please. Would you do me the kind favor of sending this to as many People

themselves for us. Please, do your small part to plant this small seed.

I found the following in the Isle of Wight County court records abstracts on
LDS # 849508:
Court of 9 March 1693/4; There is due Mr. CHARLES CHAPMAN 200 acres of land
for importation of himself, his wife ANNE and sons JN'O and CHARLES. He was
apparently an attorney as he was representing people in court at this same
time. On page 25 of the court records it has him being the attorney for
RICHARD JONES who was suing Wm.SMITHand ANNE his wife. She was the relict of
Jno.DOWNES.,dec'd.
I saw this on the ancestry.com web site and thought some of you might want
to take advantage of this:
"To celebrate the holidays, Ancestry.com is offering FREE access to all
data and census images from December 7, 2000 to December 21, 2000."

Hi all! As you can tell, I'm going through old Chapman email. Again, I'm
hoping this may help some of you put together puzzle pieces. -Cindy
Revolutionary War papers:
"Briefly, the delaration states that, while residing in Loudoun co. Va.,
Thoms Curry enlisted in 1779 and served for 2 years as a private in Capt.
John Chapman's Co. in Colonel Crockett's Va. Regiment, and marched through
Virginia, Maryland and Ohio to the Falls of the Ohio against the Indians."
This was in a declaration drawn up by the Pension Office for the court
appearance Thomas Curry made in Franklin Co., IN, on 12 Feb 1833 to obtain
his Revolutionary War pension.

Hi all,
I'm trying to help find info on the following family. Tehama Co CA is near
my hometown and I'm trying to help out. Thanks!!
-Cindy
Malinda Ballentine Chapman was born 1816 NC with her parents from VA
according the 1880 Tehama Co.CA census. She married Griffin R. Wright
(1812/13 SC); the family was on the 1840 and 1850 Lincoln Co., TN census
records. Their oldest daughter, Edith Chapman Wright, married Thomas W.
Duncan about 1854 in NW Arkansas; by 1855/56, the Duncans along with some
of his family moved to north CA (the Duncans were part Cherokee)--that's
the only proof that Malinda's family had moved to NW ARK in the early
1850's. There were Chapmans in NW Arkansas before 1850, but there is no
proof of kinship with Malinda. Chapmans who had been in TN moved to
Alabama before 1850; some of them moved to north TX , then OK, paralleling
the move of some Wright relatives--again, there is no proof of connecting
them with Malinda.

Hi all,
I received this in an email from a fellow Chapman researcher regarding
Chapmans of North Carolina. -Cindy
"The History of Burke County, NC" under Nicholas Chapman-the following is
typed from the article.
"In a manuscript I wrote in 1976, "Our Chapman Kin," I indicated that I
thought one of the Robert Chapmans of Baltimore County was the Father of
Nicholas, but after examining clues from a variety of sources I have
reached the conclusion that the parents of Nicholas Chapman were John and
Eurith Chapman (Urith on some documents). John Chapman, Sr. and his family
lived in Balitmore County, Maryland and Loudoun County, Virginia prior to
their settlement on the northwest Carolina frontier (Rev. file W 18895)
They made their move to Rowan County in 1765 ---- later boundary changes
to accommodate the formation of new counties placed the Chapmans in Surry
County, NC, and later in Wilkes County. It was in Wilkes County during
the early years of the American Revolution that John Chapman, Sr. was shot
and killed by Geodfrey and Pendleton Isobel, and the fact that Nicholas
was fatherless by 1780 is recorded in his pension file (S8193, page 21)."

I WAS JUST LOOKING THROUGH MY EDWARD CHAPMAN OF IPSWICH GENEALOGY BOOK FOR

GREAT-GRANDSON OF EDWARD, ANYWAY, HE HAD A SON NAMED CAPT. RICHAD B. CHAPMAN
BORN ABT 1821, SAID HE WAS A MARINER AND IT SAID HE DIED UNMARRIED IN NEW

Hi Jeff, Unfortunately, no connection. My grandmother was Sellana Belle
Chapman from Greene County, IL. I believe she was born in Walkerville, IL,
which is no longer a city. Iam looking for Douglas Chapman, we think he came
from Tennessee. Thanks, Nancy
Hello
Still looking for parents/siblings for Samuel CHAPMAN born 1790-92 in VT or
possibly NH. He married in NH, Sarah SANBORN in 1817. Sarah died in 1840, by
1850 he was remarried to Caroline UNKNOWN. Samuel died in Coventry VT in
1874.
By 1819, they were in Littleton, NH my third great grandfather, Amasa W.
CHAPMAN was born there in 1821 or 1822. By 1840 the family was in Orleans
Co., VT.
I believe Sarah and Samuel had several children. I have only been able to
prove two:
Amasa W. CHAPMAN born 1821 or 22 married in 1843 Isabel PLASTRIDGE. Lived in
Coventry VT till his death there in December 1868--their children were
Melissa Caroline, Amelia Ann, Charles and John.
Adolphus CHAPMAN born about 1837 in VT
Thank you.

Hey, Sheila! Thanks for the note! I really don¹t know if there¹s any
connection there. My CHAPMANs have proven quite elusive: I can¹t get past
the first one! My 3g-grandfather is Benjamin F(ranklin?) DURHAM, who married
Charlotte CHAPMAN. They had at least one son, Worth Jasper (b.31 May 1850
Lockport, PA), and one daughter, Eliza. Eliza¹s married name is GRAHAM.
Bottom line: if you can get anything out of that, we¹ve connected. If not,
I¹m still looking! ;)

over very early, in the 1700's and I do know there were 5 brothers
that came together. Would love to know if anyone in England
can give me any info on them.

to Whitby, England, as well as several Chapman historians in England, but no
leads so far, any information or suggestions for research? Unquote

identify this Chapman. I am sure she would really appreciate it if some one
who knows this person would help.

Folks,
Cindy Kuhn has been been "hired" as helper for the CFA Website. She's been
busy adding some new things to the site, and I'm thoroughly enjoying
working with her! There are some subtle (and some not so subtle) changes
being implemented. Some due to Cindy's ideas, and some due to our combined
thoughts.
We are wanting to do a page listing those CFA members who have a web
site. If you are a member, and have your own site, and would like listed
on the page, please contact either me at ddmmjm(a)netins.net or Cindy at
sindaklutz(a)yahoo.com to be included.
Thanks!
