REV. WAR PENSION APPLICATIONS OF SOUTH WEST VA SOLDIERS by
Mary Kegley 1997.
pages 58 & 59
do you have this?
here is some of what is written...
it speaks of a Wm. Chapman age 85

declaring he volunteered in 1779 at the falls of the Ohio in a company
of Ky. volunteers commanded by Capt. Montgomery in the regiment of Col.
Clark.
serving 3months the company returned to Ky.
Soon after Wm. Chapman left Ky. he went to Montgomery co. (now Wythe)
enlisting for 18 months in spring 1780.
after 18 months company discharged somewhere on the Mississippi and he
went home to Va. where his father lived.
abt. months later (he thinks) he enlisted again for a month in South or
NC.
he had no record of his age. when he enlisted under Col. Clark he was on
a ranging expedition in Ky. after theewar he moved to
Lincoln co. Ky. then to MO. and then to
Sangamon co. IL. where he resided for 6yrs.
1836 age 86 or 87 he states he was born in old Va. abt. 1750. at young
age (3 or 4) his father moved to Montgomery co. Va. (now Wythe co.)
where he resided until the war commenced.
Wm. Chapman Jr. and Jacob Fife OR Hite attested to the identy of Wm.
Chapman Sr.

This reminds me of a conversation I had with my boss' wife a while back.
She was talking about going to see Sylvia Brown, the psychic, and was trying
to figure out what she wanted to ask her. I told her I know exactly what I
would ask. I have about six dead-end lines in my genealogy and I would ask
her who the parents were.

Hello,
I'll throw in my Northern VT CHAPMAN'S too:
Samuel CHAPMAN born 1790-92 in VT was "of Brownington" in 1817 when he
married Sarah SANBORN in NH. They were in Littleton NH in 1821/22 and in
Orleans Co.VT before 1840 . He died in Coventry VT in 1874. I can't find
Samuel in VT or NH in the 1870 census indexes--I wonder if he was in Canada?
I have only been able to identify two children though I believe he had
several more:
1.Amasa W. CHAPMAN born 1821/22 in Little NH died 1868 in Coventry, VT
married Isabel PLASTRIDGE-4 children--Melissa Caroline, Amelia Ann, Charles
P., and John A.
2.Adolphus CHAPMAN born about 1837--no other information known
Kathy Karn
I am interested in Chapman's from Vermont, as a ggggrandfather came from
Vermont to Lower Canada (Montreal area and thence to Hull, Quebec in the
late 1790's and early !800's. His name was Gerard B Chapman, and had sons
Orlando, and Chester, and daughters Olive, Susanah and Ann. He was probably
born in the 1770's.

I hope I have learned that even tho' I have pains I don't have to be one
Hi everyone,
I'm new to this list and wonder if anyone has any connections with the
Chapman line of my family.
My great great grandmother was Esther Chapman of Haslingfield,
Cambridgeshire. She was born in 1817, and married Christopher Coxall in
Haslingfield on 27 January 1838. Her father was John Chapman, but I know
nothing further of him or his family.
If anyone can shed any light on this family, I would be most grateful.
Thanks for your help.
Iain
Hello List members,
I'd like to know if anyone if looking for these people or knows anything.
Carrie (Minerva) Marston b. 1840 married (Jacob?) John W. Chapman b. 1832
in Vermont. They lived in the Eastern Townships of Lower Canada, mostly
Brome and Bolton county.
I believe that Joseph Chapman b. @1792 in the US and Anna Nelson b. @ 1800
in the US living in Bolton may be John/Jacob? Chapman's parents.
Thank You for any help. This family had been a total brick wall for my
family for awhile until SKS lead me to Minerva Caroline Marston born in
Vermont. Greeley Chapman of Bolton married her sister Charlotte Marston.

I have ran against a Brick wall in finding Thankful Matilda Chapman, born
abt. 1798. I need to know who her parents were. She was born in New London
Co., CT in abt. 1798, married Lynde Lord Latimer (I don't know where), They
moved to OH. and then Kosciusko Co., IN. abt. 1737. Lynde (D) abt.1847. She
(D) in KS. Does anyone Know names of her bro. and sis.? Thanks very much
Im looking for information on George Chapman (1851-1935),my gggrandfather. I
do not know the name of his wife he is buried at Union Baptist Church in
Winder Ga. His son James Bartow Chapman (1874-1950) is my ggrandfather he had
3 other brothers Choice, Albert Dee, and John W.
Any information on this line would be appreciated.
My "brick wall" in my family tree is William A. Chapman. He was born in
Virginia about 1780. He married Dolly (Dorthula) Moore who was born
about
1785 in Virginia. William and Dolly moved with their three small
children
(Elijah, Nancy, and Asa) to Giles County, TN about 1811. They settled
on the
waters of Richland and Blue Creek. William had a brother named Benjamin
(born
1794 in VA) who also moved to Giles. In the 1820 Giles Census, along
with
William and Benjamin, there were a John and a Thomas and a Peggy
Chapman.
I suspect John and Thomas were brothers to William and Benjamin. Peggy
lived
next door to Benjamin...she could have been a mother or possibly an aunt
or
sister-in-law. Dolly, William's wife had a brother who settled in Giles
Co.
named Shadrack Moore. My problem is: 1. Where in Virginia did William
and
Dolly come from? 2. Who were William and Dolly's parents? Can anyone
help
me?
Thanks,
Mike Chapman
Hi,
I'm looking for information about my gg grandmother, Mary DeEt
Chapman. She was born 23 September 1846 and had two
siblings: Albert and Effie Chapman VanStyke. She married
Chandler DeWitt Nash on 25 December 1867 in Bloomingdale,
DuPage County, IL. She died 10 August 1925 in Dunlap,
Harrison County, IA. This is about the extent of my knowledge
about her and if not for an obituary that my dad's aunt had I
wouldn't even have this much to go on.
Thanks,
Elaine V. Dennison
