While looking through the records for Exeter,Rhode Island recently looking
for my wife's ROGERS I found the following on LDS film # 932360,pg. 125,
25
September 1750, JOHN CHAPMAN of Newport,R.I. . This is probably a mortgage
deed and he is borrowing money from the Trustees of the Colony. He signed.
On pg. 166 of same film it has the marriage of JOHN CHAPMAN of Exeter &
ELIZABETH CLARKE d/o JOSEPH of North Kingston.June * (?),1765.
On pg. 273 it has the birth of ISAAC CHAPMAN Eldest son of JOHN & ELIZABETH
born 14 February 1766 about 3/4 after 12 o'clock in the morning.
On pg. 179,JOHN CHAPMAN was chosen as town Moderator. JOHN CHAPMAN & GEORGE
PIERCE chosen as Deputies to the General Assembly of the Colony at
Providence
. He also served as town treasurer. He was treasurer until at least 1778.
The
records stop in 1778 and do not resume until 1805.
This is not my line, but thought it might be of interest to some one else.
