My goodness, I don't want to send one then, I had no idea! Yes, if someone
wants my info maybe they better give me an address and I will send snail-mail!
I am new at this sending info e-mail so that is why I asked! Thanks for letting
me know!Nancy-WV

Rees,
I deleted your Isaac message. If you don't take the time to construct your
subject line in an informative manner, I don't take time to look. I do not
have time to look at all messages that COULD have pertinent info. This is a
high volume game. If someone has the time to look at all messages, then he
needs to get a life. I do not have that much time, so I delete per the subject
line. I deleted yours yesterday. Not enough information to make it worth my
time.
George B. Williams
Hello Everyone...
It has been requested that the subject line be made a little more specific
so as to reflect the content of the body of the message. Please try to
remember to add the region of the specific query to the subject line. I
know that it helps me to determine whether or not a particular post might
be of value to me if the region is listed, as (thus far) my Chapmans are
centered in WI and OH. If the region is not listed, someone may not take
the time to read, and thus a possible connection could be lost. Let's all
do what we can to make the job of reading the list messages a pleasant task
for all.
Thanks to all!

I agree, in principle. But, as you admitted, you are only likely to check
out messages that have to do with WI and OH Chapmans. Your ancestor
Bartholemew "Bubba" Chapman b. 1597 Lerner England, an immigrant to Winship
MD in 1611 who died 1632 in PA (unbeknownst to established geneologists) en
route to OH might be mentioned, and you'd miss him because you would skip
over a message with the subject line. . .

So, as I did yesterday, the best way to get attention to a particular
elusive ancestor is occasionally to leave out certain info, as I did in my
recent post about Isaac. Did my message sans region prompt your correction?
If so, I apologize, but would still like some way to avoid having my
messages dismissed by subscribers because the region or date might not fit
the geneologic status quo. Two list members wrote saying it was a good
idea - "gets the juices flowing," said one.
Rees
Sneaky! I love it! It gets the juices going again and make us check the
records!!

Hello,
Is anyone working in this area of Mass that has run into a Chapman
family???
I am looking for the family of Margaret CHAPMAN, born abt 1748/52 in
Stoughton, Ma. Family possibly moved to Ct later, as she married a Jacob
COLDWELL or Fairfield, Ct, 31 May 1774 in Horton, Kings Co, Nova Scotia.
Jacob was the son of William Coldwell and Jane JORDAN or Stoughton. Any clues
greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Judy

I have two marriage certificates (original I think):
John J. Chapman mrd. Maggie E. Owens, Jan 18, 1854 at Winn Indiana and Newton
Connethe Mrd. Lulla A. Chapman Oct 5, 1882 both of Braidwood, Illinois.
I have the Connethe family Bible that recorded marriages, births, and deaths.
Also the recordings from an earlier family Bible from the Chapmans. The Bible
is in poor shape, book the recordings are still there and legible. I bought it
at an auction, no one would bid on it for its poor shape, but the records will
mean something to someone......
Recordings range from Dec 14, 1827 to Sept 10, 1938.
Hi everyone
I'm fairly new to the list and am looking for information on Jonathan
CHAPMAN, widower, who married Eliza MILHAM, spinster, at Ewhurst, Sussex,
England on 24 December 1823.
My research interest is actually Milham rather than Chapman and I'm trying
to establish that I am not related to this particular couple!

Hello,
I recently filled in a couple of gaps in one side of my lineage to find
the following:
Dennis Friend Hanks m. Sarah Elizabeth Johnston
Harriett Ann Hanks m. Augustus Hartwell Chapman
John Allison Chapman m. Myra Helen Blackford
Julia Chapman m. Francis Herron Quail
Doris Helen Quail m. Stephen Franklin Boyle
Francis William Boyle m. Betty Lou France
Francis William Boyle, Jr. (me)
I am interested in finding all I can about Augustus Chapman, his family
including children, parents and siblings, and esp. John A. Chapman with
Myra Blackford. It would be nice to determine Augustus' lineage. With the
middle name of Hartwell, I suspect that somewhere in a prior generation or
two, Hartwell was some mother's maiden name.
The family appears to have lived in Paradise and Charleston, IL in EDGAR
Co., IL. John and Myra were married in Petersburg, OH in 1878 which is
strange in itself as, this is 2 states away from home for John. They made
their home in Charleston, IL where the children were born.
Augustus Chapman family
Augustus Hartwell b.1822 d.1898 m.1847 Harriett Hanks
children:
Robert Newton b. 1848
John Allison b.1851 m.1878 Myra Helen Blackford
Fern b.1880
Julia b.1884 m. Franics Herron Quail
My line as above through Doris Helen Quail.
Charles Blackford b.1885
Shelby Cullen b.1892 - last in Marietta, GA d.ca. 1961
Mary Jane b. 1853
Charles Harry b. 1855 d. 1858
James Monroe b. 1858
Ella Ada b. 2860 m. Albert Cunningham lived in Columbia, NC.
Much of the above info comes from Adin Baber's "THE HANKS FAMILY of Virginia
and Westward." Some I knew as my ggmother, Julia, and Aunt Fern lived until
I was old enough talk to them.
Can anyone provide assistance on the missing links?
I know that Augustus was a Lt. Col in the Civil War, serving in the 54th IL Vol.

Deb:
I have no siblings for Jonathan B. Chapman. Most of the information I
have on him is from a family bible kept by my great grandmother. The
following is what I know about John:
b. April 22, 1722 in Woodstock, Ct.
m. 1747 or 1747 to Eliza (or Elizabeth) Fielder
d. January 7, 1802 in Ashford, Windham county, Ct.
February 18, 1768, purchased 100 acres in Ashford, Ct.
He and Eliza had 10 Children: Jonathan, 1749; David, 1751; Elijah, 1753;
James, 1756; Benjamin, 1759; Reuben (from whom I'm descended), March 20,
1761; Dorcas, 1763; John, 1766; Hannah, 1768; and Anna, between 1770 and
1779.
One source cites Jonathan B.'s father as a William Chapman, Jr. b.May
30, 1682 in Ipswitch, Mass. He had three spouses: Abigail Lyons m.July
18, 1718; Anna Lyons, m.April 14, 1736; and Sarah Corbin, May 21, 1780.
William d.Novemeber 30, 1792 in Ashford, Ct. At this time I have not
been able to make the connection between William and my Jonathan.
Hope this helps.

Nancy, and all.....
It really depends on the number of people listed within each generation, if
you follow what I mean. If the listing is quite extensive, then it can
amount to quite a large message. My concern is regarding those who receive
the Digest mode.
How about a compromise? Send it in two messages if it is very lengthy at
all. I do appreciate you checking first!!

I'm looking for an Isaac CHAPMAN who died in 1747 - I won't tell you where.
But he's central to hundreds of lineages I've encountered. I've read
speculation that he was born in England, Connecticuit, Virginia, and
Maryland.
Please, check your databases - let me know if you encounter any Isaac
CHAPMAN who may have lived in the 1st half of the 1700s.

I am looking for info on Jonathan B. Chapman, b.April 22, 1722 d.January
7, 1802 m. Eliza Fielder.
I have quite a bit of info from him on down, but I'm not certain who his
parents were. One source mentions William Chapman Jr. b.May30, 1682
Ipswitch, Mass and Abigail Lyons but I have not been able to confirm
this.
Does this info look familiar to anyone?
