I'm sorry, I meant that last one to go to Mari only. I forgot to change the

I am way behind (that pesky Real Life again ;-) ) but I think a web page is a
great idea--helpful for latecomers who might have missed a thread pertinent to
them but can find the info on a web page (gedcom or whatever), for example.
The website will only be built once, right? I mean it will need fine tuning
and updating every now and then but it's not like that is all that the list
will ever talk about! There is no reason to be huffy about it. And it's not
your fault that people reply to you publicly when you asked them to reply
privately.
I'm sorry you had to deal with that person's bad temper. If they wanted
another thread, why didn't they start one? :-)
I like this list a lot, even though I haven't participated much. I think a
website is a fine direction to grow in to complement the list.

Lewis,
What program are you using? I don't think I will upgrade my FTM, I think I
will dump it. It is too much work to put everything in and loose it;
apparently at the program's whim. I do not know how to correct it, so either
I keep every family separated and on disk or just keep everything in chapter
format, the only thing I would not be able to do is be "on call" for thse who
want me to check out their families.

Born ll/31/1894: Master Ross to James A. and Clara Chapman Ross.
Both originally from Canada, now in Clinton, Massachusetts.
I sent for information on my father Earl Ross and received this item
highlighted on a page of births registered in town of Clinton. The date
is not right and besides my grandfather was Andrew Ross.
I'm passing this information on to anyone researching these names in
particular.

There is ample evidence that there was inetrmarriage between the Chapmans and
the Leggs in Spartanburg, SC. I do not have any of these folks, but
Spartanburg is a good bet to start your search.

John, as I understand it the webTV can't run programs on its own, so am I
correct to assume that you aren't running a genealogy program? If thats the
case then I don't think you can send a gedcom, unless there's a web site
somewhere which will allow you to enter your data and generate one (which
I've not heard of, although it would be an interesting idea).
What you can do is send a list of your chapmans to me in email, formatted as
I posted in a previous mail.

John, I "think" there may be a way around it, depending on your program.
Lewis will have to yea, or nay this, as I've said, he's way more technical
than me. I apologize...didn't stop and think about the WebTV users...And I
thank you for bringing it to our attention.
Now....it was my understanding that WebTV was to impliment the option of
cut and paste. Have they done this yet? Otherwise, I've forgotten if you
can receive attachments. We'll get this figured out somehow.
Which of these options are available to you?

Rus pointed me to a page that explains gedcoms & how to make them, so for
those who are interested try looking at
http://www.genserv.com/gs/genged1.htm
With that I will stop collecting step-by-step procedures since it's already
done <g>
Feel free to contact me directly if I can be of help.
We've received several submissions for the index, Thank you all. I plan to
add the first version to the page this weekend, if nothing goes wrong.

It seems that many on the list are not familiar with GEDCOM files and how to
make them.
I've tried to give directions on how to make them from FTW, but I can't
describe the process for others.
I'd like to build a collection of step by step procedures on how to make a
gedcom, for the common genealogy programs.
If you understand the process for a genealogy program other than FTW, and
are willing to write an explanation please let me know lewis(a)oz.net
Thanks
