Hi,
I sure would like some information if you find it on my Chapman line. My g-
grandmother was Cynthia Chapman b. 1872 in Clay Co, WV. Her parents were
Jacob Chapman b. in VA in abt 1821 m. to Sarah J. Jarrett. Jacob's parents
were William Chapman b. abt. 1774 in VA m. to Fannie
Wilson. William's parents were Jacob Chapman b. abt. 1755 in VA m. to
Margaret Burns. Trying to go back further than the Jacob that was married to
Margaret Burns.

Your Chapmans were in Va. about the same time as mine were. Do you know the
names of William's children? My John P. Chapman was born in Wythe County, Va.
March 9, 1798. I know he moved to Blount County, Tn. Married Sarah H. McLin
of Washington County, Tn May 1, 1821 and died Oct 17, 1886 and is buried in
the Friendsville Cemetary in Friendsville, Blount County, Tn. John and
Sarah's children included: Martha; Kitham; William M.; Rebecca; Addison
Price; C. Frank; Elizabeth Jane; Robert Emmett; Eliza Emalene;Lucinda; Thomas
and John J. Chapman.
Someone recently told me there were only 2 Chapman families in Wythe County,
Va. when John P. Chapman was born there March 9, 1798. It makes me a little
more optimistic about eventually finding his ancestors.
I am looking for any information on Chapmans in the Bonham or Dodd City, Texas
area. I have sent this request before but I have recd. new information from
a family member I found. Thanks in advance for any help.

I have been told that my great granfathers name was Nicholas Lee Chapman and
he was married to a woman by the name of Minnie. They were from Clay County
Misouri. The only child I know they had was Houston Lee Chapman who settled
in Fannin County, Texas. Does this fit in with anyone so far..

A friend very kindly sent me a copy of a history of the small town
of Smithburg, West Virginia (formerly Smithton). Chapter Seven of
the "History of Smithburg, WV" (by Ned Jones) mentions a Warner
Chapman, of probably eastern Virginia, who settled in Smithton
(Doddridge County) ca 1805, describing his efforts at building a
mill. If anyone is trying to locate a Warner Chapman of the
Virginias, I'll be happy to share what I have. Pat Pulasky
Keith: Eddie of Ipswich died in that town. We have his will and his
second wife Dorothy soon remarried, despite the promise that she would
lose the right to her fruit trees if she did! Someone else can perhaps
tell you the bio of the Edward of Rhode Island. "Cousin" Judy
Hello, Cousins,
Forgive my ignorance, but is the Edward CHAPMAN (immigrant) of Ipswich MA
the same Edward CHAPMAN who died in Rhode Island in 1675 at Narragansett
Fort and married Elizabeth FOX?
Thanks,

Think I descend from both these Edward CHAPMANs on very different lines and
they are not the same. I have Edward CHAPMAN m. Elizabeth FOX (dau of ??? and
Margaret (Clark) FOX) in England. They had 8 children at Windsor CT between
1663 and 1675. I do not know about his death in RI. Is Narrangansett Fort
the same as the Great Swamp fight in King Philips War? He is discussed in
Dawes-Gates.
Edward Chapman is first found at Windsor, Connecticut, about 1662. A church
record states that "Edward Chapman married Elizabeth Fox in Ingland." The
marriage probably took place as early as 1660 as he was sued in Connecticut
for a debt of L6-03-02 on March 5, 1662-3, and must have been living in New
England some time prior to that date.
He took the freeman's oath on May 9, 1667. In 1672 he was one of those who
signed a remonstrance to the General Court relative to a certain land grant
which had seemed unfair to many of the inhabitants. On March 14, 1673-4, he
was chosen fence viewer for that part of the town that lay north of the river.
Edward died at the Great Swamp Fight in King Philip's War, his death being
recorded in the Windsor Town Records:
"Here I set down the Deaths of Several parsons that were against the Indians,
and were wounded that they dyed, it was on the 19th of December,
1675,...Edward Chapman..." Four days later, Elizabeth (Fox) Chapman, came
into possession of the property of her uncle, Henry Clark, receing his home at
Windsor and seven small near-by tracts of meadow land and swamp.
Edward of Ipswich was having children at Ipswich by 1643 and d. in Ipswich
1678. Interesting that they both have a son named "Simon."

Terry,
I'm sure many on the list may be interested in a Jacob, since I have seen
the name in many of the different branches. It would be super if you could
post some more details (especially names, dates, and places of those who
are not still living). Many of us don't like to pass along information
about living relatives due to security concerns.

Hi,
Sorry about the duplication. Sent the first Timothy Chapman out without the
descendants. This is the correction:
Looking for ancestors of Timothy Chapman who resided in Charlton, Saratoga,
County, NY in 1817.
Timothy bought property from an Israel and Sarah (Barker) Chapman on June
13, 1817, in Charlton, NY.
Benjamin Chapman owned property next to the property that Timothy bought.
Looking for the relationship of Israel and Benjamin to Timothy, if any.
