Trying to locate the parents of Daniel CHAPMAN, born Bedford Co., NY, July
25, 1756 and died February 8, 1841 in Johnson Co., IL. Daniel also served in
the Revolutionary War. He was married to Lucretia FINCH, October 25, 1788.
I have seen information in the LDS Ancestral files which has a lengthy
pedigree on Daniel's ancestors, however, I have also been told that this is
incorrect.
Anxious for any comments, suggestions, others researching this line.

Hi Jim,
It was good to hear from someone who is interested in the
descendants of Francis John Chapman. You must have the booklet
that my father published in 1966 entitled "A Short History of the
Chapman Family." Thomas Jefferson Chapman was the grandson
of Francis John not the father. We have been seeking his
father for many years so if anyone has any clues I would like to know.
I have a great deal of information on all of the children that you
mentioned and am in touch with a lot of their descendants. If anyone
is interested I'll be glad to share.
Sincerely,

I would like to find information on John Milton Chapman b. c. 1845. The
story is that he traveled by horseback with his brother from Santa
Barbara, CA to Elgin, Van Wert Co., OH where they stayed in a boarding
house owned by Hanah Eliza Coil Wright. Hanah's husband Cyrus Wright died
in the Civil War. John and Hanah were married somwtime before 1880 as
that is when their only child, a daughter, Myrtle Corella Chapman was
born. Hanah was 10 years older than John and had two daughters, Hettie
and Laurie. One died at 16 and the other died at 21. John was a
minister. Does anyone have information on this John. I have had
difficulty finding him because of how common the name "John Chapman" is.
Myrtle Chapman married Edward Christopher Hirn. I have a lot of
information on their descendents and also have some photographs. I would
love to share information. Thank You.

I am trying to figure out why this note came back to me. I am trying to
gather info on the ancestry of my family. Is there something wrong with
me wanting to do that? I also want info on other families besides
Chapman. You once said that is not possible. I want to know why. Can
you tell me how to gather info on other family names?

Hello,
This Nathaniel(2) is the son of Nathaniel(1), born MD/PA in 1775 and Mary
----. Nathaniel(2) married Melinda JONES (dau of William JONES and
Elizabeth WOLFE), and had children (probably all born in Clermont Co, OH):
Mary b 1834 m. Thomas CAMPBELL
Abraham 1836
William 1838
Elizabeth Jane 1840 m. Thomas MEYER
Katherine 1842 m. Jefferson FLAUGHER
Sarah Bell 1844 m. John DUNHAM
Lizaelen 1847
Matilda 1849 m. George VERMILLION
Nathaniel 1861(sic) m. Sarah Ann HOWSER
Harriet 1861(sic) m. William HICK
Nelson (no year given) m. Nancy SUMMERHILL (in Texas)
NOTE: This information comes from a typed copy of a Bible Record I got from
the Clermont Co. Genealogy Society. Perhaps the dates of 1861 should read
1851, as the marriage of Nathaniel and Sarah Ann HOWSER took place in 1870.
He could not have been only 9 years old, but he might have been 19!
If anyone has any other sources for these dates, I would like to add them
to my speculations... This family is connected to my JONES line & I would
be interested in any info anyone might have.
Thanks,

Carol,
My Chapman line starts in Amelia County VA in 1700 with Samuel Chapman, but
6-7 generations later the name Harmon enters my Chapman line. Mother is
Willie Harman (probably Harmon) Chapman Williams, grandfather is William
Harmon Chapman, great grand father is William H. (??????) Chapman,
gggrandfather is Hampton Harmon Cosper (we are back to b. 1816 in Edgefield
SC). The earliest Cosper I know was Henryck Cosper b. 1747 in Edgefield, SC
(He has a son, Harmon Cosper). Henryck's father reportedly immigrated from
Germany and went to SC.
Where did your Harmon name come from? Are related by some means?
Also, Augustin Washington, George's father had a Nathaniel Chapman as one of
two executors of his will. Could this be yours?

I can't find anything posted by James T. Rice. Would someone please send me
a copy. Would also like to hear from Becky-any Willoughby in the Savannah,
GA. area. Thanks and good huntin'.
Jim Willoughby>
I have located my copy of the estate papers of William Willoughby, brother
of Aaron (? right Becky?) and that of his son William B. Willoughby.
William proceedings are dated Jasper Co. Court of Ordinary, November Term,
11 Nov 1829, ETHELRED OR ETHELDRED - SORRELL, J.P.
Names mentioned in sale of items include the following:
James Williby (Willoughby is spelled this way throughout document.)
Geo. Stillman
Elizabeth Williby (widow of William B. ?-I don't know)
Ellis Williby
David Williby
Ellis Williby
Thomas Robertson, his wife Anges(Williams' daughter)
William Giles, in right of his wife(?)
George Williby
N.W. Pridgeon
Josiah Pyron in right of his wife(Elizabeth Williby)
(I have a Steven J. Pyron and Wm. H.H. Pyron, members of the Forty-fourth
Georgia Regiment, Doles-Cook Brigade. Steven captured at Spottsylvania, Ba.
210 May 1864. William captured same day. I don't know if they are related
to Josiah (Joe))
Also, there is a John A. Tucker, captain of Company B, Georgia Forty-Fourth
regiment, Doles-Cook Brigade. I quote; "At the surrender at Appomattox,
he was in command of this regiment. After the war he returned to Floyd
County. He had an elegant home just outside Rome, Georgia, chich was
totally destroyed by fire in 1901. While looking at the fire destroying his
home, dropped dead of heart-failure. A brave soldier, a true friend, a
kindly gentlman was he." HISTORY OF THE DOOLES-COOK BRIGADE, Henry W.
Thomas, author.
I have a particular interest in this Brigade and book. General Doles was
from Milledgeville, GA. where I now live. At the time of the Civil War,
Milledgeville was the state capital of Georgia, etc..
William B. Willoughby, William's other son, died in 1827
If you have additional information on any of the folks I would like to hear
from you.
Thanks again for your responces.

CHAPMAN, Jacob Henry
Specifically, I am searching for the ancestory of Jacob Henry Chapman
(B.1800 D.1888). He was born either in Columbia Co or in
Rensselearville, NY.
He married Huldah Winans (B 1806 D 1884) circa 1825 in the Preston
Hollow Baptist church by her father, the Rev.Winans. They moved to
Fulton (Boucks Falls), cleared 100 acres of land, and raised a large
family. I believe both died and were buried on their farm or in
Schoharie Co
My grandmother's (Agnes Edith Chapman B 1889 D 1996) father James Polk
Chapman was one of the sons of Jacob and Huldah.
Family correspondence abt 1890 suggests that Jacob Henry's father was
William Chapman who was ?educated in Kinderhook and or Valatie in
Columbia Co. NY. William is said to have married Eva Salpaugh in
Columbia Co. Both moved to Rensselearville, NY.
William's father was reputed to be a Peter Chapman "who married a
Scotswoman".
