This is from CD# 229 Marriage Records, Early-1850, Southern States
Information from this CD includes KY, N. C., TN and VA. If anyone needs a
look up from any other county or state, I'll be happy to do so for you. I
don't always find my family member's name, so I don't think that all the
information available is on the CDs. But it's a start. Thanks! Marsha Owen

Shannon,
The CHAPMAN name is quite populated in the Johnson and William Co., IL area.
My own CHAPMAN's come from the 1840's through the 1890's in Johnson Co. Can
you give me the names of other family members? I might be able to link you in
somehow.
Shannon Lynn
Here is what I've got on my Chapman family so far. Don't have too much.
Earliest date I have is abt 1848 and in Madison, WI, I am guessing.
Know that ggrandfather was born in Madison, WI and then moved to
Glastonbury, Ct, where he workedin the mines.
If you see any connection, please contact me. I'll be more than happy to
share information.

Hello,
Long time lurker on this forum...
I am tracing my family who were Quakers around 1800-1860 in
the Richhill area of Armagh, Northern Ireland. I will be
visiting Quaker libraries in Ireland in October. Anyone
else on this list researching Chapman from Armagh at or
before this timeframe?
I am pretty sure my family originated in Scotland and was "planted"
in Ireland in the 1600-1700's

Robert Carter Sutton married Catharine Washington on October 20, 1811.
Their first born of several children was:
John O. Sutton who married Martha E. Chapman in March, 1829.
John O. Sutton apparently died before 1850. John and Martha's last child,
my
gg grandfather, Frank Logan Sutton, was born in 1845.
Martha E. Chapman was born 1810. I do not know who her parents or
siblings were. She moved to Haywood/Lauderdale county, TN. after 1850 with
her children. If anyone can help, I would appreciate it very much.
Thank you!

The Mary Helm buried in the First Cemetery of the First Presbyterian
Church of the 77 graves, is Mary Chapman. She died 16 November 1811 at
age 23. The headstone next to Mary Chapman-Helm is marked E. A. this is
her grandmother, Elizabeth Akers. Next in line is William Akers her
grandfather and died 31 March 1810 at age 80.
James Helm (son of Lt. John Helm) and his first wife Mary Chapman had
three children and the Kentucky-Tennessee-Illinois records had her with
six children, mixing them up with James Helm's second wife. They did not
know that she was buried in that Cemetery of 77 graves, but had her
buried in Tennessee. Some writer sent the data to Mrs. Clifford Helm
which helped to "set that straight"<?>. (Probably Samule Helms??)
There is an Akers Family Book which gives their origin and the line of
Mary Chapman-Helm and some of that family history has been taken from
that book and is as follows: (This writer borrowed the book from
Catherine Akers-Webb of Callaway, Franklin County, Virginia):
THE AKERS FAMILY BOOK: "William Akers, 3r. born in 1730 died in 1810,
married F. Elizabeth Maryte or Marte of Pennsylvania and are of
Holland-Dutch extraction Probably the daughter of Henrich Maryte
(Marte) from the Palatinate, Germany, who sailed from Rotterdam in the
"Alexander and Ann", arriving at Philadelphia October 1730.
He patented 175 acres of land in Nelson County, Virginia in 1751 . Later
he moved to the present Campbell County, Virginia. He is buried in the
second Cemetery(this is the first church site of the 77 graves, it is
not the second Cemetery) of Old Concord Presbyterian Church, where his
tombstone now stands in a "Natural Grove" This is not a natural grove,
it is a grown up plantation, it is the site of the first church which
Moses Helm built or had built in 1769)
William Akers and his wife Elizabeth had 11 children. The 5th. child of
William Akers is Catherine Akers and in 1787 married Benjamin Chapman,
1st. Mary Chapman-Helm is the daughter of Benjamin and Catherine
Akers-Chapman, granddaughter of William Akers. Some of the Akers family
left Bedford County and Campbell County, Virginia and went to Tennessee.
Sarah Akers the eldest child of William Akers, 3rd married Alexander
Steel, Jr. son of Elizabeth Helm (daughter of Moses Helm) and Alexander
Steel, Sr.
The Akers family in Franklin County are the same family
