tha given names are similar to mine... I am looking for the family of
origin of a Philip Chapman b c 1720 around or in London. He has a grandson
names Alexander and several Williams.
Accpording to the bio of rev Alexander Chapoman ( son of a James b 1747 and
HE was son of this Philip).
Philip came to the US in 1745 , married in New Jersey ( probably a Mary)
and had 3 girls after James and then Benjamin ( my line) in 1765. he lived
and worked as a wool carder and salesman until about 1777 in both Bucks Co
PA and Hunterdon Co NJ.
The bio says Philip had a sister and 2 brothers who were away in Spain and
France studying and he was in Ireland buying wool for the family business
when his father died and no one got back to London in time to claim the
estate. Hence Philip came to America.
I have no clue who Philip's wool-trading father was, or in fact, who his
mother was.
Any help here will be MOST appreciated!!

Dear List,
Is anyone researching Alexander CHAPMAN (born 1855 Fyvie, Aberdeen) who married Isabella Hay MURRAY (1859-1901) in 1878 in Abbey Parish, Edinburgh?
They were my great grandparents and raised a family of eight here in Edinburgh, their daughter Georgina CHAPMAN (1881-1927) being my grandmother.
