Regina,
Coincidentally, I have a CHAPMAN family who have ties to Gainsborough,
Lincolnshire about 1816, and to Wisconsin after 1851.
James CHAPMAN, born Sep 14, 1816 Gainsborough, England, married 30 Mar
1840, Hook, Yorkshire, England, to Hannah BOOTHROYD, born 24 Mar 1814
Swinefleet, Yorkshire, England.
One of my cousins found this family in the March 1851 Census in Goole,
Yorkshire, and James indicated his place of birth as Gainsborough,
Lincolnshire. We have tentatively identified his parents as Robert
CHAPMAN and Mary, but have not found any documentation to place this
family group thus far.
James' family appears to have lived along the River Humber, over the
period from about 1814 to 1851 based on research thus far, and he
married into a BOOTHROYD family that also lived along the Humber.
James and his family emigrated to the States in late 1851, wintering in
New York State as near as we know at this time. The family moved on to
Raymond, Racine Co., Wisconsin by 1856 (possibly as early as 1852, I
have not yet acquired the land purchase record). James and Hannah were
accompanied to Wisconsin by at least one of her BOOTHROYD brothers.
Do you think there is any possibility of a connection?
Thanks,
Kimberly L. "Kim" CHAPMAN

Subject: [CHAPMAN-UK] Great Great Grandpa Thomas Chapman?
I have been searching for many years for my Great Great Grandpa Thomas
Chapman. He was married to Jane. They had six children: John, baptised
May 4, 1817; Elizabeth baptised August 1, 1819; William baptised
Febraury 3,1822; Charles baptised June 6, 1824; Robert, baptised March
3, 1827 and Thomas Hallgarth baptised December 25, 1829. (I have a copy
of these baptisms from St. Andrews Church located in Kirkby Cum
Osgodby). Lincolnshire, England.
William, Charles and Robert immigrated to the United States around 1850.
William is my Great Grandfather. He settled in Wisconsin, while his two
brothers settled in Michigan.
Does anybody have any information or know where I can find anything
concerning this family? Thank You,
Regina Brisk

My Chapman brick wall is Jane Chapman who married Benjamin BIRDSALL at
Sculcoates ERY on 11 Oct 1831. Both were 'of this parish". Born about 1804,
from MI & death 'cert', but where and parents unknown.
There were quite a few Chapman baptisms in Hull and Sculcoates indicating
quite a number of families but no Jane 1800 - 1810. In the same time period
there are 27 Jane Chapmans baptized in YKS and LIN in the same period and
the family may have moved to Sculcoates but no other evidence that might
indicate which one.
Jane died before the 1841 Census so there is no help there.
I would be grateful for any suggestions as to where to go from here. better
still to hear from someone who might be connected.

Hi northern hemisphere listers,
No cold weather downunder!
I've 'lost' a load of Chapmans who lived in & around the MANCHESTER AREA
1880s to 1920s/1930s, so I'm still looking for descendants of the children
of John & Ellen(nee Binning) CHAPMAN, namely:- 1) Mary Eliza, born 1863 at
Sunderland; married Jonathan Scadlethorp ENGLAND at Hull in 1881; in 1901,
living Ashton under Lyne with their 7 children. 2) Ann, born 1868 at
Newcastle upon Tyne; 1891 living at home in Cheetham, probably married
before 1901, married name unknown. 3) Caroline, born 1870 at Newcastle; 1900
married Charles Norman FROST, daughter Winifred born Dec. 1900, living
Broughton, Salford in 1901. 4) George, born 1872 at Newcastle; 1901 working
as a clerk; possibly married in 1901 to Alice BETTENEY. 5) Frederick Yarrow,
born 1874 at Newcastle; 1901 working as a clerk; married in 1902 to either
Isabella GEORGE or Hannah LAMBERT. 6) Wesley Claypole, born 1880 at Hull;
1901 working as a clerk; living at Pembroke Grove, Moss Side in 1929 - still
working as a clerk. 7) Edith, born 1876 at Heaton, Newcastle.
Hope to hear from somebody out there!
Barry Chapman,

Emily Rosina Chapman age 32 born like her sister Annie M Chapman age 34
were both born in Peckham,London Area, probably Southwark.just south of
the Thames River.

Emily Married Frederick Blatchford from Guernsey.I don't know where.? or
When.?
Frederick was a tin plate maker in the Islington,
London Area.He was age 34.This information comes from the 1901 census
for #59 Linton st.
They had children Oliver, who was on the 1901
Frederick who must have been born just after the census was taken, and
Winifred who we know was after Frederick. This information come from the
Census but also from the mass registration taken during the German
occupation of guernsey 1940.

Hi listers
During these cold weather weeks, let's try to break down some brick walls.
Maybe some of the new members can help some of the old members and visa versa.
It's also good to repost your interests every now & then. Happy hunting.
