Hi Diane
Thank you for your message.
My Chapmans originate from Battersea, Lambeth and the City of London and I
can't find any link with your family member.
Good luck with your research.
Best wishes

I am researching my great -grandfather's brother, George
Parker CLARKE, who was born in Burgh Castle, Suffolk (now Norfolk) in
l855.
I have found George with his wife, Sarah, at Lincoln, on the l88l
Census, This tells
me Sarah was 24, b. Kettering, Northants.
They had a daughter Lizzy aged 4, b.London, a daughter Ellen aged 3 b.
Melton Mowbray, Leics., and a son George aged 1, b. Crick, Northampton.
I then found George and Sarah on the l90l Census living at Wapley &
Codrington, Glos. with additional children:
Louise, l6, b. South Cave, Yorks, Jessie H., l0, b. Ellesmere Port,
Cheshire
and a nephew of Sarah's
Frederick N. LAW, l5, b. Tilbury Essex.
As you can see, George and Sarah did not stop in one place very long.
It has been a long search but I have finally found a birth certificate
that matched for one of their children:
Registration District Rugby
George William CLARKE, b.Crick, Northants, 11th September l879, father
George CLARKE, railway labourer, mother Sarah Ann CLARKE, formerly
CHAPMAN.Residence 7 Railway Huts, Crick.
So now I have it - Sarah Ann was a CHAPMAN born ca. l857 Kettering. Now
all I have to do(!) is find a marriage for George to Sarah ca. l876 (the
year before their eldest known daughter, Lizzie, was born in London),
then this will hopefully give me the name of Sarah Ann's father.
I believe George worked all his life on the railways, hence the moving
from place to place. I hope he settled somewhere permanent in his final
years!
If anyone has any additional information for me on ANYTHING above,
please do get in touch. I am sure that Frederick LAW (b. Tilbury,
Essex, l886)
was related to Sarah Ann's CHAPMAN family rather than my CLARKES as
George only had brothers.
