Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or accept incoming emails. Additionally, administration tools will no longer be available to list administrators and mailing lists will be put into an archival state.
Administrators may save the emails in their list prior to March 2nd. After that, mailing list archives will remain available and searchable on RootsWeb

Lots of recent postings to the Chapman UK list, so I thought I'd add mine.
1. Edward Chapman, born 1725/26, died 14 July 1785, buried 16 July 1785, St. John the Baptist, Greatham, Co. Durham. He married Sarah.... abt 1753; she died March 1765 and was buried on 12 Mar.1765 at St. John the Baptist. Edward had a 3 more wives and 6 children from those marriages, of whom only 3 survived infancy/early childhood. Edward and Sarah begat:-
2.1 Jane, baptised 21 April 1755, died Mar.1758, buried 16 Mar.1758 at St.John
the Baptist, Greatham.
2.2 Jane, baptised 1 Jul.1759, St.John the Baptist, Greatham.
2.3 John baptised on 29 July, 1762 at St. John the Baptist, Greatham, Co.
Durham. His (twin?) sister, 2.4 Sarah, also was baptised 29 July, 1762 and
she was buried on 17 Aug.1762, at St. John the Baptist.
2.5 Sarah, baptised 19 Feb.1765, buried 6 Mar.1765 at St. John the Baptist.
2.3 John married Mary Corps (baptised 23 April 1765 at St. John the Baptist)
on either 6 Dec.1784 or 16 May 1785 at St. John the Baptist and they had 10
children, one of whom, "George the elder", died age 16. John & Mary moved
to Hartlepool between 1793 and 1797 and died in 1845 and 1833 respectively.
Their memorial inscription in St. Hilda's Churchyard, Hartlepool states:-
"Sacred to the memory of JOHN CHAPMAN who departed this life the 8th of March 1845 aged 83 years. Also MARY wife of the above who departed this life the 5th of December 1833 aged 69 years. 'O may each passer-by this lesson learn, that to the pure-in-heart to die is gain'."
John & Mary begat:-
3.1 Ann, born 22 June 1786, at Greatham.
3.2 George, born 20 Sep.1787 at Greatham, buried 29 Nov.1803 at St. Hilda's,
Hartlepool.
3.3 Sarah, born 15 Jul.1789, at Greatham.
3.4 Jane, born 21 Mar.1791, at Greatham.
3.5 John, born 10 Aug.1793, at Greatham.
3.6 James C., born 13 June 1797, at Hartlepool.
3.7 Michael, born 17 May 1799, at Hartlepool.
3.8 Mary, born 2 Mar.1801, at Hartlepool.
3.9 George, born 20 Feb.1804, at Hartlepool.
3.10 Elizabeth, born 31 Jul.1806, at Hartlepool.
3.9 George married Mary Yarrow on 10 Mar.1825 at Hartlepool. George was
a baker and in 1827, had a bakery in Micklegate St., Hartlepool. On 2 Sep.
1832, age 28, George died from cholera and the next day, was buried at
St. Hilda's. Mary was pregnant with their fifth child when her husband
died. George & Mary begat:-
4.1 Jane, baptised 25 Jan.1826 at St. Hilda's Church, Hartlepool.
4.2 Mary, born 3 Oct.1827, died 19 Dec.1827, buried 23 Dec.1827 at St.
Hilda's.
4.3 John, baptised 22 Mar.1829 at St. Hilda's, believed to have died in the
Oldham, Lancs district in Mar.1895.
4.4 George, baptised 5 Sep.1830, buried 25 Jan. 1837 at St. Hilda's.
4.5 Edward, baptised 26 Dec.1832 at St. Hilda's.
4.3 John married Mary Appleton Christon, born about 1831 at Stockton, Co. Durham, who was buried 22 Oct.1854 at St. Hilda's. They begat Fanny Walton, born 21 Aug.1852. At the time of the 1861 census Fanny, age 8, was living in Hartlepool with her grandmother, Mary Yarrow Chapman. Fanny married Charles Barclay on 26 Apr.1879, at Falmouth, Cornwall. Fanny & Charles Barclay had at least one child - Jesse, a girl, born in 1880. On 31 Mar.1881, they were enumerated in Aston, Birmingham and Charles' occupation was said to be "Manager, Hinge Works".
On 4 Apr.1861, at the Parish Church, West Hartlepool, Co.Durham, John Chapman, widower, age 32, married Ellen Binning, spinster, age 22. Ellen was born on 6 Oct.1838 at Ashby de la Zouch, Leics. the 5th of 8 children of Rev.William Binning, a Wesleyan Methodist Minister and his wife, Eliza Claypoole. William was born about 1788 at Seaton, near Hornsea, East Riding, Yorks and Eliza was born 31 Dec 1804 at Kingston, Jamaica - they married at
Kingston, Jamaica on 24 Oct 1824.
John & Ellen begat:-
5.1 Ellen Binning, born 18 Nov 1861, Hartlepool, Co.Durham; baptised 5
Feb.1862 at the Wesley Chapel, Surtees St., West Hartlepool. She married
John William Marshall on 9 Aug 1881 at Hull and they had 12 children. Ellen
died on 1 Nov.1928 at Yardley Wood Rd., Billesley, Birmingham.
5.2 Mary Eliza, born 1863, Sunderland, Co. Durham, married John S. England
in 1881 at Sculcoates Register Office. On 31 Mar.1901, living with John,
their 7 children and father in law, George England, in Ashton under Lyne,
Lancs.
5.3 John Edward, born 22 Jul.1865, Sth.Bishopwearmouth, Sunderland. On
11 Feb 1888, at St Marks, Cheetham Hill, Manchester, he married Lucy
Garside and they lived in the Ashton under Lyne/Dukinfield area until WW1
and in 1921/22, they were living in Sheffield, Yorks. John & Lucy begat:-
6.1 John, born about 1889.
6.2 Bernard, born about 1892 and died in infancy.
6.3 Norman Garside, born 19 Jul.1896, died 26 Jun.1951, Gt.
Yarmouth, Norfolk.
6.4 Phyllis, born 20 Nov. 1898, died about 1979. Married to Claude
Cecil Ward, they had one son, Peter. The family lived at Edgbaston,
Birmingham in the late 1920's & 1930's. After WW11, they lived in
South Africa for a number of years, then at Oakengates, Telford,
Shropshire until their deaths in the late 1970's.
5.4 Ann E.('Annie') born 1868, Newcastle upon Tyne, Northumberland.
5.5 Caroline, born 1870, Newcastle upon Tyne, married Charles Norman
Frost about 1897. On 31 Mar.1901, this couple were living at Salford, Lancs
with their baby daughter, Winifred, born about 1900. Also living with them
was Caroline's mother, Ellen Chapman, widow, age 62 years and Caroline's
siblings; George, age 28; Frederick, age 26; Edith, age 24 and Wesley, age 20.
5.6 George, born 1872, Newcastle upon Tyne, married Jun 1901, Prestwich,
Lancs.
5.7 Frederick Yarrow, born 1874, Newcastle upon Tyne, married Sep 1902,
Manchester, Lancs
5.8 Edith, born 1876, Heaton, Newcastle upon Tyne, believed married Sep 1902,
Prestwich, Lancs.
5.9 Wesley Claypoole, born 1880, Hull, Yorks.
6.3 Norman Chapman was married on 3 Jun.1922 to Marion Robinson, born 2
Nov.1898, Hyde, Cheshire, who died 1 Nov.1991 at Bury St.Edmunds, Suffolk.
Norman served in the Corps of Engineers in France during WW1, was injured,
gassed and invalided from the Army before the end of the war. Marion was an
hospital nurse when she met Norman. Marion & Norman had 7 children, one of
whom died in infancy. Their eldest, Margaret Joan, died 4 Jan. 2002, age 78,
but their other children survive as at August 2003.
Would be very pleased to make contact with any descendants of Edward from Greatham and/or collateral lines.

my Chapman's are from Gwennap, Cornwall and have the unusual name Almond
William Chapman but I can't find him on a ship to Australia even though I
know he was here in 1854.

She was Christened 10 July 1783, Foston, Yorkshire, England
Mary born 1806 Christened 14 Dec. 1806, Sutton on the Forest, Yorkshire,
England
Robert born 1810, no further info
Thamesan born 15 Aug. 1812, Christened 13 Dec. 1812, Sutton on the Forest.
Thomas born 27 Mar. 1815, Huby, North Riding, Yorkshire, England.
Christened 30 Apr 1815 Sutton on the Forest.
Robert came to America, in 1832, married and returned to England with his
wife in 1838. He gathered up the family, which now included John CLAYTON, husband
of Thamesan, and their two daughters born in England, and returned to
Wisconsin, USA.
I am seeking info on Mary, Mother of John, and his Father. John is listed as
the "natural son" of Mary. She may have died before 1838. She did not come to
America. Would like to know when and where she is buried. Also any other
CHAPMAN's in that area. Also the RUDDOCK's, Robert and Thomas.
