[CHAPMAN-UK] U.K. Chapmans
by Alvina A. Seavers (Sam)
I have Chapmans (no relation) on both my maternal and paternal sides, both
in the U.K.
My maternal Chapmans originate in the London/Middlesex areas:
My G. Grandfather was James Thomas CHAPMAN (b. 1882 Whitechapel). His
first wife, Ellen BOWSER, was my G. Grandmother. They married in
Whitchurch, Buckinghamshire in 1903. He died in 1954. They had two
daughters, Rosina and Catherine Madeline CHAPMAN (my Grandmother) and
another adopted daughter, Jessie CHAPMAN.
My G.G Grandparents were James Thomas CHAPMAN and Rosalind
CHAPMAN (nee MICHELSON). James was born circa 1853 and died 1901. They
married in 1874. They also had a daughter, Eliza CHAPMAN. (Rosalind's
parents were Adolphus MICHELSON and Hannah ADAMS).
My GGG Grandparents were James CHAPMAN and Eliza POTTON, both born circa
early 1830s, I think.
I am also researching my paternal Chapmans in Norfolk. Most of my CHAPMAN
line comes from around the Norwich/Yarmouth/Trunch areas.
My G Grandmother was Ellen Edith May SEAVERS (nee CHAPMAN), born 1880
Yarmouth, NFK. She married James Arthur SEAVERS in 1904 in Woolwich. Ellen
died 1942 in Dagenham, Essex.
Ellen's parents, my GG Grandparents, were John CHAPMAN and Mary Ann CHAPMAN
(nee SELF). John was born circa 1841 in Palling, NFK. They married 1874 in
Norwich and had the following children: John Henry William, Emma Jane Ann,
Bertie Arthur George, Ellen Edith May. Not sure at this stage if there were
any more children. According to the 1881 census, they were living in
Yarmouth, NFK.
John CHAPMAN's parents were William Stamp CHAPMAN and Ann CHAPMAN (nee
BYGRAVE). William was born circa 1815 in Trunch, NFK and died in 1888 in
Yarmouth. They married in 1838 in Sutton, NFK.
My GGGG Grandparents were John CHAPMAN and Hannah CHAPMAN (nee ?). I have
no further info at this stage.
Would be pleased to hear from any person with information or interest in
either of these two lines.
