Do you know the descendants of George Henry CHAPMAN? Although my CHAPMAN's are from Birmingham they had a strong emphasis on
family names like George, Richard, Thomas, etc. Henry was a favourite middle name. I have only traced this line to Joseph Thomas
Chapman b.1872.
Thanks,
Beverly

Hi List
Looking for anything on Amelia Ann CHAPMAN, married in Bloomsbury in 1844
to Philip DOWLING. She was alive in the 1881 census as a pauper /laundress
in a workhouse. Estimate she was born in about 1825.
Her first child Amelia Ellen was born at 52 Hunter Street, Southwark in
1845.Given that I have never been to London I would like to ask a stupid
question, Is Southwark far from Bloomsbury?
Hoping for some help.
Chris in South Australia
Hi,
it was very kindly mentioned to me that I should include more details in
the hunt for my gt grandmother.
I know she married FREDERICK SANDLEY who on the 1881 census was living in
Alscott Rd, Bermondsey.
They had children: George, Susan, Fred, Harry, Lizzie, Lillian, and my
grandmother Annie Louise Sandley.
All were born in Bermondsey to my knowledge.
Susan had a sister Annie who could not have children and took her niece
Susan in to live with her.
The town of Chepstow has been mentioned at some time - not sure how it
connects though.
The only other mention of Susan & Annie I have is that there father is
listed as PA CHAPMAN.
I am more the certain that there were only the 2 sisters and that they were
born after 1866 but close to that date
Hoping that this is more helpful in the mysterious hunt for the elusive
CHAPMAN sisters.
Many many thanks

Hi I dont supose anyone would have a Mary CHAPMAN b wet Ham Essex Uk
1856 father JAMES Cordwell CHAPMAN
june b Adelaide South Australia
Hi Tracey,
There are 55 Susan(and variants) Chapman in the 1881 National Index for a
birth in 1866, plus or minus 5 years, which I will send to you privately if
you email me at kencar(a)tpg.com.au (copyright an all that)
There are probably more Annies so will stick with Susan for the moment. At a
county/regional level I can search for a combination of the two names. Any
preferences for a starting place?
Regards, Carol Freeston Lake Macquarie
hi all,
Huge request I know, however I am completely stumped.
I am searching for my gt grandmother SUSAN CHAPMAN. She had a sister ANNIE
CHAPMAN. They were born approx 1866 where I've got no idea! Which is the
eldest - again no idea.
Is there someone who can look on the 1881 census for me for these two
sisters who would be aged approx 15 at the time. The only other info I
have is that SUSAN married FREDERICK SANDLEY and died approx 1913 or 14. At
the time they were living in Bermondsey but I believe Annie was in
Monmouthshire.
Any takers??

Tracey,
Can you give us more that you DO know? Sometimes something you think is
insignificant helps to zero in on it.
How about your grandmother/grandfather....the child of Susan? Do you know
where they were born? That would be a good place to start.......

Hello Carol - trust a fellow Aussie to be on the list and see my fluff up ;}
Other than what I posted previously I have nothing else ... which is typical
of the time when it came to women's records ... Like many researchers I am
not prepared to fork out $ on certificates that may in fact be wrong ... So
guess when it comes to who Mary's parents were I just have to wait ... *sigh*
...
However, you could well be right in terms of the connection.
Many thanks

Hello Mari and listers ... (says she still feeling rather foolish and

To explain ... several months ago I decided to slowly set up the mailing
lists for my family that is 'missing' ... mostly women of course ...
(different story) ... wrote out the list and systematically checked them off
at Rootsweb ... subscribed to those that were already taken and applied for
those that were not ... I have checked the CHAPMAN-UK off on my list as being
applied for. During the time that Rootsweb were having their BIG CHANGE I
think several things went wrong which was only to be expected ... and I never
thought another thing about it ...
Uni has just started back for this semester so I needed to free up some time
and unsubbed from all my lists leaving only what I thought were MY lists to
administer... naturally when the email came through regarding the Subject
line ... I thought hang about ... what's happening ... this is 'my list' ....
the rest every one knows ...
So Marri ... The CHAPMAN-UK is your list which I am now resubbed to (thank
you) ... it was never up for adoption that I know of ... ;} just me being my
little ole dyslexic ADHD self and not paying enough attention ... (early am
here) ....
Having said all that ... and brought a whole host of attention to myself that
I didn't need ;} has anyone lost a Mary CHAPMAN born approx 1727 married 1747
Hellions Bumpstead Essex a John HYMUS ... if so ... I've found her ...
I can't lay claim to a graceful exit ... but I can leave by saying

Well, we're both rather embarrassed.
I've shown what kind of mood I'm in today! <g>
I'm sending this both privately to Sandie and the list because of her
message that follows
Apology accepted, Sandie, and I'll resub you.
Took me completely by surprise!
My question now is how you thought that the list was up for adoption, when
I haven't given it up.
As I said, I started the list when a number of people from the UK had
posted to my Chapman-L and after questioning several, had decided that the
numbers warranted the second list for Chapman.
If there is somewhere that the list is listed as adoptable, the listmaster
needs to be informed.

Dear Friends,
In your enthusiasm for the particulars you forget that many of
us know the particular COUNTY and STATE in which these families settled.
That info in the SUBJECT LINE simplifies our e-mail SORTING. PLEASE DO IT!!!
