Hi Everyone,
Am researching CHAPMAN's particularly in Essex.Great grandfather William born Hatfield Peverel circa 1820. Married Naome Harris, unable to trace marriage yet. Lived in Woodham Walter as Boot & Shoe Maker and/or Blacksmith.
My grandfather was Edward Herbert CHAPMAN b 1863 - I believe that he had several brothers and sisters i.e Ellen Isabella b 1859, Alfred George b 1867, Frederick William b 1870, Christopher Carew b 1876.-shown at same address on 1881 census. Naomi not listed on 1881 census and may have died in 1879 .
Grandfather Edward Herbert joined the Army and fought in Afghanistan and South Africa before settling in Newcastle upon Tyne where he married Emma Beatty, had one son Edward, my father. Edward Herbert died in 1948
There may also be Henry Christopher b 1855 also living in Woodham Walter in 1881 and married to Emily with child Ellen Ada .
Have also found two others born In Woodham Walter but elsewhere at 1881 census being Ernest b 1861 and living in Swan Inn, Tillingham and Ada b 1866 and living at Witham both in Essex.
I am also aware of a relative called Tom Chapman living in Chelmsford in 1950's married to Maud with son, another Roy.
Anyone else have any knowledge or links to this family please?

Dear Mick
Did your CHAPMAN sea captain by any chance plow waters
between Australia and South Africa at any time? Perhaps in a
windjammer? Do you have the names of his spouse and children
please?
I'm stuck on an OLIVER CHAPMAN and a THOMAS GOBLE
CHAPMAN and suspect they came from England somewhere
before settling in South Africa. Looking for any leads at all, even in
second names, to indicate which branch of the CHAPMANs they
came from.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Kind regards

Hello - Am tracing a Rev. William Chapman who was a
Wesleyan Methodist Minister in Ontario, Canada. He
came from England to Ontario in 1846, married Jane
Poole in 1850, had 7 childred and died in 1898 in
London, Middlesex, Ontario.
A biography says he was born 2 Jan 1815 in
Yorkshire, England. I notice on the IGI that there
are two William Chapmans christened in January in
Yorkshire:
William Chapman, chr. 29 Jan 1815, Howard Street
Independent, Sheffield, Yorkshire, England.
William Chapman, chr. 22 Jan 1815, Coverham With
Horsehouse, North Riding, Yorkshire, England.
Does anyone have knowledge of whether either of
these two Williams were born on the 2nd of January?
Or does someone recognize this family? Would really
appreciate hearing from you if you can help. Thanks, Renee
