[CHAPMAN-UK] Chapman interests
by Pauline & Arthur Kennedy
Hi listers
Since all seems to be quiet here at present, this seems like a good time to
post my interests. I have two CHAPMAN lines in my ancestry - both in
Wiltshire.
One line is in Sherston Magna:
My 4 x great grandmother was a Mary Ann CHAPMAN. She married Charles BEAK in
Sherston on 26 Apr 1798.
Mary Ann was baptised in Sherston on 17 Jun 1776, and her parents were
Thomas CHAPMAN and Mary DEVERELL. They married by licence in Sherston on 7
Dec 1767.
Thomas CHAPMAN was baptised in Sherston on 14 Oct 1742, the youngest son of
John CHAPMAN and Mary MILSUM. They married in Didmarton GLS on 28 Sep 1725.
John CHAPMAN may have been the John baptised in Sherston on 18 Dec 1700, son
of Roger and Deborah.
Roger CHAPMAN was probably baptised in Sherston on 7 Dec 1659, son of Thomas
and Mary.
And Thomas CHAPMAN may perhaps have been son of Roger CHAPMAN and Agnes
KINSCOTT, who married in Sherston on 1 May 1632.

My other ancestral CHAPMANs were in Biddestone:
My 6 x great grandmother was a J(e)ane CHAPMAN, born in Biddestone 10 Feb
1710/11. She married John BLAKE of Castle Combe in Hardenhuish on 20 Oct
1736, and she was baptised in Biddestone on 28 Mar 1769 "in later years".
J(e)ane CHAPMAN was daughter of Lawrence CHAPMAN and Sarah BUTLER. The
BUTLERs were a Quaker family and the births of all Lawrence and Sarah's
children can be found in Quaker records. Lawrence and Sarah married in
Chippenham 30 Mar 1704, and I think this was a Quaker marriage.
Lawrence CHAPMAN was the son of John CHAPMAN, who was buried in Biddestone
on 23 Aug 1711.
There are several wills and memorials which add to the information about
this family, but I can't get any further back than John.

Finally, I have some limited information on the CHAPMANs in Littleton Drew
around the late 17th and early 18th centuries if this would be of interest
to anyone. This family are not ancestors, but I picked up the information
whilst doing other research.
Anyone else researching these CHAPMANs?
