Do you have any thing more on the parents and other ancestors of your THOMAS
CHAPMAN? I have info on a JOHN CHAPMAN of Stanneh, in Cleaveland in
Yorkshire, near Gainsborough who came to America in 1684, He was a Quaker and
settled at Wrightstown,Pennsylvania. He wwas a member of the Wrightstown
Monthly Meeting. He had at least sons Doctor JOHN and also JOSEPH. There were
probably others, too. I have not done much research on this man. I just
stumbled into this info recently.
There was also a ROBERT CHAPMAN who came over ca. 1680 to
Chesterfield,Burlington County,West New Jersey. He was also a Quaker,but I do
not know where he was from, but probably from England. Burlington is probably
about 50 miles from Wrightstown I will possibly get more info on these
CHAPMANS.

Hi I am new to this list - I was previously on the other Chapman list but it
was recommended to me that this list was more in the area that I was
searching.
I have a few Chapman's in my line.
One man in particular is a Samwell Havelock Chapman.
Samwell Havelock Chapman 1868-1937 m: Agnes Amelia Chapman 1873-1927 m. I
think in 1900 in NSW Australia.
I am very interested in what ship he travelled to Australia on. I have no
information on what year he came to Australia, so I can only assume that it
was somewhere between when he was born and when he was married!!. I think
he left England and arrived in Sydney.
When I get home (I am at work now!) I will go through my other Chapman
information and post it for those on the list. Hopefully someone out there
may have some more information on some of my Chapman's and hopefully I can
shed some light on yours.

My interest in the CHAPMAN family is centred on Hertford. My grandmother was Emily Florence Chapman and she lived, aged 22, in Cowbridge, Hertford with her father William (a grocer) and mother Jane and a sister Jane in 1881. When she was 28 she moved to Hammersmith and married a widower Joseph Clark who was a baker and bore him 2 daughters. When he died she lived together with my grandfather (also a widower) and my father Robert Ridgway was the result. I have not been able to find out whether they ever married. My problem is that I have not been able to trace Emily Chapman's birth or any details of the Chapman family before 1881. They didn't live in Cowbridge in the 1871 census. All of the family were born in Hertford except the mother Jane who came from Bristol.
I haven't managed to get to Hertford yet to examine parish registers. Anyone got ideas on what I should do next?
