Ok. By now everyone has heard all the fears, all negative and positive
sides to this situation.
The list admins have been assured that the lists/web sites, USGENWEB sites
will all remain as they have.
We have been told that the AUP still stands (you can find it on the main
page of Rootsweb) They have said that our databases will not be sold and
put into any medium that is for sale. Until I see/hear something
different, I am still a supporter of Rootsweb and it's goals. All these
"rumors" are not healthy for anyone!
If someone has some questions regarding this change, please take your
questions to the HelpDesk at
http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/
And perhaps before you do that, you may find some answers at:
http://www.rootsweb.com/rootsweb/merge.html
Which explains what is intended and has been agreed upon.
Thanks!

Hi folks,
I'm a new lister having recently discovered CHAPMAN marrying into my
MARDELL/MARDLE family and have already travelled back a little way by the
aid of the Vital Index CD's- all of which, I hasten to add, needs checking
out!
While the CHAPMAN's seem to have lived 2-3 hundred years in Walkern, I am
looking for a marriage between John Chapman and Mary ?, parents of Thomas
born about 1730, which does not appear to have taken place there. This
either means he married a girl from another parish, the records are
incomplete or they weren't married at all.
This is what I have discovered so far. Can anyone help or connect, please?
Every blessing,
Christine

The only Ships list that I'm aware of is the One you're on. However, I
would ask if you have posted a query asking for help for Aussie
ships. There are subscribers to the list from various countries...perhaps
Australia
would be one of them.
Oh! Just happened to think. There's a staff member that lives in
Australia. I'll check with him and see if he has any suggestions.
My plates are full at present, so if I don't get back to you within a
reasonable length of time, please rattle my cage!

Hi all;
I'm a Chapman living in Canada. I'm starting to look into my English
roots. My GGF&GGM with their 4 sons and 1 daughter (I think, could be
2) emigrated from Birmingham (King's Norton) in 1902 (or '05) to
Hamilton, Ontario. GGF was Joseph Thomas Till Chapman (1874) who
married a Frances Mary. Their children were: Thomas Rupert Till
(1892), Joseph Thomas Till, George, Richard (1895), and Margaret.
During WWI my GF (Thomas Rupert) went back to his home town and married
a childhood playmate Eva Elizabeth Wall, born 1894. Richard died of his
wounds in 1918 in France where he is buried. Back in Canada the family
packed up and moved to California around 1925 or so. However, my GM and
GF and a Great-Uncle (Joseph) stayed in Hamilton. At this time no other
Chapman in Canda is directly related to our family, even in California
the Chapman family is not large - about 5-6 direct relatives ie.
descended from Joseph and Fanny Chapman.
Has anyone done any research in the Birmingham area and come up with any
hint of a relationship to Joseph Thomas Till (1874) or ancestors of my
GM Eva Elizabeth Wall? ( Her mother was Elizabeth Wall who married twice
and left quite a few children behind.)
I enjoy receiving this listserv. I find the accounts of other Chapman's
very interesting. Keep 'em coming!

Sorry Linda, but I think you will find that the Census returns are every 10
years and the most recent one available in the U.K. is for 1891. 1901
isn't due out until 2002.
I didn't see the original query from Robin, so can't help any further with
that.

Hello Robyn
This is Linda (nee Chapman) Jordan from London, UK on a hot, sunny
afternoon.
Re your query....suggest you try the UK Census Returns - these returns are
compiled every 4 years and list everybody by name at any given address,
listing their age, gender, place of birth and relationship to other
members of the household. Look up your ancestor's name in the nearest
Census Return to 1934 - this may take time if you don't have a street
address but is findable with patience! If she is listed, the entry should
show her place of birth and you will be able to calculate her age etc from
the Census Record to confirm your information. The last time I looked at
them the Census Returns were held on microfiche at this address:
The Family Records Centre, 1 Myddelton Street,London EC1R 1UW.
Also, have a look at the web page -
http://www.pro.gov.uk/readers/frcleaflets/census.htm
I have always found this to be a very valuable genealogical resource.
Hope this helps!

Hello, all.
I've been searching for traces of my grandmother for some time, and I hope
someone here can help me.
My mother's baptism certificate places my grandmother Ivy May CHAPMAN
and my grandfather John Edward Francis GIBNEY in New Brighton in 1934.
But while I've found a birth record for J.E.F. (born Birkenhead 1893), Ivy's
has been
more elusive. Imagine my excitement, then, when the other day I came across
the
first listing I've ever seen for an Ivy May CHAPMAN, born in 1898 in
Bridgwater.
Here's my question:
How do I go about finding out if the Ivy May CHAPMAN from Bridgwater is the
same one that ended up in the Wallasey area... and is she indeed my
grandmother?
Any help or advice on clearing these murky familial waters would be highly
appreciated!!
