My emigrant grandfather, Giles Chapman, who married Sarah Jackson
also
settled in Frederick Co Va. We believe they arrived at Philadelphia about
1734, may have stopped over at Chester Co Pn for a while before settling
in
Frederick Co Va. They were Quakers and helped charter Hopewell MM. They
were in Orange Co NC by 1750 and were members of Cane Creek MM. By 1760
they had settled is what later became Newberry Co SC, were members of
Fredericksburg MM for a while and then Bush River MM. Giles and Sarah
died
there but place of burial is unknown. Their second son, Joseph Chapman,
is
my lineage. He also died in Newberry Co. His wife is unknown as
marriages
were not recorded in SC at that time. I have made no connection of our
family to other Chapmans in America. I have not been tested -- and know
of
no others of Giles' descendants being tested. I'd love to identify Giles'
parents. James Chapman
