Hello Jane, I'm sorry that I can't be of any help to you. I, and none of
my family to my knowledge, have been tested. My Chapman lineage goes like
this: me, Walter Daniel Chapman (b Comanche Co Tx), George Ellis Chapman (b
in Floyd Co Ga), Daniel Chapman (b in Elbert Co Ga), David Chapman (b
Newberry Co SC), Joseph Chapman (b Frederick Co Va), Giles Chapman (b
England). I have not been able to identify Giles' parents. We believe they
lived at Bridlington, England where he married Sarah Jane Jackson -- but we
have no proof. Sarah Jane's family has been traced back three generation
through Quaker records. Also we have been able to trace our the Chapmans
through Quaker records here in America. I have always suspected that there
is a relationship between Giles and the John Chapman family of Bucks Co
n -- as they are they are the only Chapman lines I've found to be Quakers.
I'm still searching for answers. DNA tests may be the only way of knowing
for sure. Good luck on your search. Please let me know about what you
find. James

Subject: [CHAPMAN-DNA] Possible Non-Paternity Event with a Gilbert
Hello Chapman Researchers!
My name is Jane Gilbert, and I'm the administrator of the Gilbert Y-DNA
Project. I'm looking into a possible non-paternity event between one of
my Gilbert project participants and a Chapman line. On his Family Tree
DNA matches page, I see a 36/37 match with one Chapman and a 34/37 match
with another. All the marker differences involved fast-moving markers
and on the 34/37 match, there's a two-step difference on one marker.
While these results imply a connection between my Gilbert participant and
the Chapman line, there's no way of knowing where or when the connection
took place. It could have been 200 years ago or 500 years ago. While I
don't have much hope of getting to the bottom of it, I figure I'd least
try to collect some information for my participant.
I can also see at
ysearch.org that at least three other descendants of
Robert Chapman of Saybrook, CT. have been tested by other companies and
matched the Family Tree DNA participant.
Below are the two Chapman matches I see in the FTDNA database:
37109 Isreal Chapman 36/37
91825 Robert Chapman of Saybrook, CT 34/47
I'm wondering if anyone out there has compiled these lineages of the
Chapmans who have been tested by both Family Tree DNA and the other test
companies referenced on Ysearch? Has a connection between the Israel
Chapman line and the Robert Chapman line been established? More
information on Israel would be greatly appreciated.
Also, does anyone know if any branch of this Chapman line went to Canada?
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Jane Gilbert
