Maternal DNA is a different test. The one that we are involved in
measures Y-DNA and only yields Paternal data. Maternal testing measures
mtDNA andis an extra cost.
Maternal DNA analysis is a much more complex task because mothers change
in every generation of a named family. The paternal ancestry is a
straight line.
However, Y-DNA can yield information aobut your relationship to a
maternal ancestor. For example, Joshua Morris married Frances Simms in
1771, and their daughter married into my Chapman branch. I came up with
a DNA match to the Sims family, but it's to Frances' male ancestors -
not Frances herself. However, it was a pretty exciting find that
connected me to centuries of earlier Sims that had been worked out by my
Sims DNA cousin.
