Rupert,
I have the same problem in KY with the courthouse fires! Do you have any
family names that seem to be carried over as first or middle names in the
descendents? Sometimes that gives a clue! Was Singleton a family name?

The information we have presently seems to indicate that Samuel
Singleton
Chapman was born in what is now Graves Co, KY, grew up in TN, and finally
settled, with several of his brothers, in Yalobusha Co, MS. His only
'known' (I
still have no proof) sister, Pernicia, married a Paschal and settled
in
Caloway Co, KY, which at least conforms to the family lore. Several of
us suspect
that their parents were William Chapman and Nancy Storey from the
Carolinas,
but this, also, remains unproven. Unfortumately all records in
Graves Co
were destroyed in courthouse fires in the 19th century, so there is no
hope of
further information there, and I have yet to find any definite traces
of
the
Chapmans in TN, either. Still, the fun is all in the search!
