My wife is a Chapman and I have done a lot of research on her line. Her
brother Jerry took
the 37 marker test for Y-DNA on
familytreedna.com and it was posted in
the Chapman area,
To see the area you need a kit number and a password and since we paid
for half of the test,
we got the kit number and password from Jerry.
It turns out that my wife and Patty Chapman P. Brown seem to be fairly
closely related.
35 out of 37 match. 90% within 12 generations. I have some pretty good
circumstantial evidence that the links merge within about 8 generations
with a Wm Chapman of Winchester, VA. I won't go through the
circumstantial evidence here.
Now the information on the website is password protected and it does not
list the names or the email addys for those who took the test. Now I
guess Ernie Chapman can, with the permission of another person, give out
the name and email.
I understand that there should be some privacy here, but I am puzzled by
one thing. If a person agrees, why can't that person put his name and
email on the list? Most of us want to be found by distant cousins so
that we can share that information.
If nothing else, perhaps we could if we so chosse to post the
information on this group.
Most of us are not wanted by the police. We are trying to find cousins
and find info.
To put it bluntly, people can have their privacy if they want but they
should also be able to disseminate the information freely if they want.
Maybe I am overboard on this issue. I am willing to listen to
counter-arguments.
