I totally agree with this posting. I think it would encourage other testers if they could
see the lineages and locations of those who have tested and be able to contact them
freely. My male cousin from another line tested and our SHORT project is very open and
YDNA broke a brick wall down for us that had been in place for at least 75 years. Being
able to access pedigrees and email addresses is important to the collabortion.
I have a chapman brick wall that I have spent a lot of time on -I cannot find a living
Chapman male willing to donate. I resorted to autosomal DNA testing. I was able to prove
my earliest ancestor, Francis A Chapman b. about 1812 KNOX TN was brother to Asahel P
Chapman b. 1818 KNOX TN. A female descendent and I did the test and we shared DNA at a
level to support what the paper trail suggests. Sure there are many trees on the internet
that say they were brothers but no one had any PROOF that they were brothers. I still
don't know who their father was. I have ideas but no definitive proof.
i think once you are a part of a project you should be allowed certain access. And for
those of us still on the outside, it would encourage people like me to try harder to find
that living CHAPMAN- my last male chapman died 1960's and I have traced all my
gggrandfather's brother's lines to try to find a MALE Chapman. If after finding
this unknown Chapman he agreed to test for this distant crazy cousin (namely me), I would
feel just like Bryce.

My wife is a Chapman and I have done a lot of research on her line. Her
brother Jerry took
the 37 marker test for Y-DNA on
familytreedna.com and it was posted in
the Chapman area,
To see the area you need a kit number and a password and since we paid
for half of the test,
we got the kit number and password from Jerry.
It turns out that my wife and Patty Chapman P. Brown seem to be fairly
closely related.
35 out of 37 match. 90% within 12 generations. I have some pretty good
circumstantial evidence that the links merge within about 8 generations
with a Wm Chapman of Winchester, VA. I won't go through the
circumstantial evidence here.
Now the information on the website is password protected and it does not
list the names or the email addys for those who took the test. Now I
guess Ernie Chapman can, with the permission of another person, give out
the name and email.
I understand that there should be some privacy here, but I am puzzled by
one thing. If a person agrees, why can't that person put his name and
email on the list? Most of us want to be found by distant cousins so
that we can share that information.
If nothing else, perhaps we could if we so chosse to post the
information on this group.
Most of us are not wanted by the police. We are trying to find cousins
and find info.
To put it bluntly, people can have their privacy if they want but they
should also be able to disseminate the information freely if they want.
Maybe I am overboard on this issue. I am willing to listen to
counter-arguments.
