I appreciate the clarifications given by two Chapmans participating in this project.
It explains why my query several months ago about participation of UK Chapmans was met
with a stunning silence. Perhaps the limited scope of the project should have been made
clear from the start. In this context it would obviously not be useful for an English
Chapman or the descendants of someone who didn't arrive in the US until about a 100
years ago to participate.

MAR:
The project does not have a limited scope. Some people such as myself have
limited goals, but the project is only limited by the number of people who
participate. If a lot of Chapmans participate in the future, we will get
some interesting results that should be valuable to a wide range of
researchers. Right now, it's just in its infancy.
Only by making the effort will we find out how many separate Chapman lines
exist. Perhaps it will validate your pessimism - or perhaps not. But it's
a worthwhile effort.
