Dan
I saw in one place where our ancestors name was spelled Chapin. I think
many times that the names were spelled by phonics because not everyone knew
how to read and write or would request the spelling of the name. As a
result, the surname may have changed over time and may be spelled
differently within the same family.

Thanks, Corey for your sentiments welcoming all
Chapmans to the Familytreedna Chapman project. As the
administrator of that project, I have considered even
expanding the project to include other spellings such
as 'Chipman' in that project. I'd appreciate any
comments on the idea.
I haven't searched to find any non-Familytreedna
Chapman 'testees'. I hope any such Chapman would
inform all on this list.
