William Chapman's age:
1787 Rowan County Tax List of Capt Basil Gaither
ELEZEBETH CHAPMAN: 2 white males under 21/or over 60, 3 white females, 4
slaves. Elizabeth is head of household.
If James and Elizabeth Chapman had two sons under 21 in 1787, then they
would have been born between 1766 and 1787.
John inherited part of James estate and it's probable that William was a
son too.
According to the various Rowan NC census records, William's age was:
Rowan County NC
1790 William was born before 1774 (over 16)
1800 William was born between 1756-1774 (26 to 44)
1810 William was born between before 1765 or 1756-1765 (over 45 yrs)
1820 William was born between before 1775 or 1756-65 (over 45 yrs.)
All of which fits the above tax record of being born by 1766 for one son
anyway.
John Chapman's Age:
Unfortunately there isn't a census record for John in Rowan during those
years. But He had moved to Chesterfield Co SC between 1790 and 1799
according to deed and census records. John was not in Chesterfield Co SC in
1790.
Chesterfield County SC Census:
1800 John was born between 1775-1784 (16-25)
1810 John was born between 1766-1784 (26-44)
1820 John was born between 1775-1794 (26-45) or 1775-1784 (26-35)
This John was clearly born between 1766 and 1787 and is a match for
Elizabeth's son on the 1787 tax record.
There was a John Jr. (born between 1775-1784) in the 1800 Chesterfield Co
Census record.
