I did the FamilyTreeDNA 25 marker test. I signed up online, they sent me a kit which
contained swabs and a test tube to seal it in. There was a short questionnaire, mostly
biographical data. No pain, no sweat. After receiving my certificate my snail mail, all
other communications to/from them have been via email. After receiving the results from
FamilyTreeDNA, they provide a link to the public Y-DNA database where you can upload your
information to be compared with other lab results. Very interesting, although, other than
Noni, I didn't really find any further family tree information that was helpful to my
research. I'd do it again, though.

I just signed up for the Family Tree 37-marker test for our Chapman
family through a male first cousin. The website indicated that only
73 Chapmans have been tested through Family Tree DNA. I am
particularly interested in Chapmans from Chester Co/Delaware Co, PA;
Frederick Co, VA; Brooke Co, WV, Washington Co, OH and Doddridge Co,
WV.
Could someone who's had the test review the process for those of us
who have just recently signed up, or who are considering signing up?
For instance, what is in the kit that is sent to us? Does it contain
a questionnaire about our oldest known ancestor? Do we receive most
of our instructions by email or snail mail? Is there any way to
compare results for those who have DNA work done by various companies?
Also, how often is the Chapman-DNA website updated?
Thanks much. Pat Chapman Pulasky Brown of the central valley of
California.
