My uncle was tested as the last Chapman in our family. I've traced the line
back to William Chapman of 1657 New London and was hoping the DNA project would
help prove this. Unfortunately his results match NO BODY - not even at 12
markers with one or two mismatches!!!
I'm beginning to think he's an alien!

I was one of the lucky ones on the DNA testing. Shortly after my cousin sending in his kit. We had a match with David Chapman who is a descendent of Samuel Chapman b. 1705 of Caroline Co VA. We have believed for sometme that we descended from George Chapman b. 1736 of Caroline Co. VA. However, we had no proof because of court house fires and lost documents. This gave some proof that we are on the right track. I hope to do some comparison of info at the CFA meeting in CA. I think that if more Chapman's would come forward and test that there would be more matches. As I understand it that with more passage of time (generations) that there will be more differences in numbers. I think that there are a couple in ours but we are at least 8 generations back maybe more to match as far as I can tell in our tests.

I just checked the Chapman Project page and I am STILL the only Haplogroup J2! Grrr. Hopefully in time I'll get some company...hopefully.

I'm not getting email from this group.
I can no longer find the chapman ydna group page, either.
I don't even know if #40089 showed up with the group.

The link on the email still works for me. I just checked it again to be sure. It has the kit number and gimmie code built in.

<<What's the meaning of chapman surname again?>>
The best explanation I've ever seen says that "Chapman" means peddler or some other kind of salesman. It comes from the old English word "ceap" - which is also the root of the modern word "cheap."
The German equivalent is "Kaufman."
Becuase the name comes from a trade - like "Smith" or "Baker" - we are
unable to trace it to a spcific locale or old family.

Kay, you seem to be having problems. I'll try to send you a reply, see if it goes through. I have no trouble getting on the Family Tree DNA Project page, but it seems nothing has changed on that page for me in the past 12 months. There is still only one "hit", with Ray Chapman. I emailed him long ago, but never got a response. Maybe someday .... >).

o gee, I found it, Y RESULTS, last option on the right. Sorry.
I'm still wondering if we're not descendants of the proverbial traveling
salesman. What's the meaning of chapman surname again?
The closest match I see on mine, the matches FTDNA shows me is to a BEER at 25
markers, distance of -2. There are only 3 similar test results in my 25 marker
group. Does that mean anything other than more participants needed?
