Hi Cuz'n Tom,
I hadn't given any thought to a 25 marker upgrade. Will that tell us more
even
though we only match on 10 of 12 markers? If it will help us, I would be
glad to upgrade.
My ggrandfather, John A. Chapman, was born in Tipton Co., TN in 1849. My
gggrandfather, Francis Marion Chapman, was born in Rowan Co., NC in 1819.
His father was Sterling Chapman. Sterling Chapman's father was William
Chapman. Some Chapmans left Rowan Co. in the early 1810's, but my Sterling
and William Chapman stayed in NC and were still there in the early 1820's.
They were involved in enough land transactions and lawsuits to leave a good
paper trail. On a lite note, while doing research at the Rowan Co. library,
I found documentation showing that my mother's ancestors filed a lawsuit
against Sterling & William Chapman, my dad's ancestors, around 1820!
There were other Chapman's in the Rowan Co., NC area in the mid to late
1700's,
including a James Chapman of Culpepper Co., VA. I do not know if my
William was related to him. I found substantial documentation on James
Chapman and his relatives. James could be related and he may even be
William's father. If you would like, I can email you some of my notes on
James Chapman. These were made last year when another cousin and I spent a
week in NC last year doing geneological research. It include a lot of
names, dates, etc.

Hi James,
I hope you do get DNA tested, as my Richard Chapman
arrived in Frederick Co. VA, the same time as Giles Chapman
did.------- Richards oldest son was named "Daniel", as I
see some listed in your line. What if we are related??????
Cuz Noni
Hello, Tom, My line of the Chapman family goes like this: Me > Walter
Daniel Chapman > George Ellis Chapman > Daniel Chapman (Floyd Co Ga) > David
Chapman (Elbert Co Ga) > Joseph Chapman (Newberry Co SC) > Giles Chapman
from England. Giles arrived in America ca1734, stayed in Frederick Co Va a
few years and then followed the Quaker movement down to Orange Co NC, then
settled in what is now Newberry Co SC. I would be interested in knowing if
any other Chapmans connect to this line. We have not been able to identify
the parents of Giles Chapman but believe they lived at Whitby, England.
James

Hello, Gary, This Tom Chapman does not appear to be form my lineage.
Which is---Giles Chapman from Bridlington England to Virginia about 1734,
then Orange Co NC, and finally in Newberry SC > his son Joseph > David >
Daniel > George Ellis > Walter Daniel Chapman who was my father. I haven't
decided to have a DNA test done but may later when I understand its
application to genealogy better. Good luck, James Chapman

I have just received the results from my 12 marker DNA test and I have verified that it is posted on the Chapman DNA page. Hi cousin!
I'm the Tom Chapman you are connected to by 10 markers. Have you thought
about upgrading to the 25?
What is your Chapman line? Oldest ancestor?
