Subject: CHAPLIN, David Thomas
I am trying to identify the parents of my 2nd great grandfather David
Thomas
Chaplin. He was born on 4 November 1865 in Galesburg, Knox,
Illinois. He married Kate Estelle Young (b. 21 April 1876 Osawatomie,
Miami, Kansas) on 28 February 1894 in Osawatomie, Miami, Kansas. I know he
played baseball for the Kansas City Blues in 1895 (I have a photograph of
him in uniform). I have been told he also worked as a hand on cattle drives
throughout the south-west United States. My great grandmother Nona Chaplin
Kucher was b. 1 May 1895 in Drexel, Cass, Missouri (just over the state line
from Kansas). I have been told they then moved by wagon to Douglas, Arizona
at some point. They are all buried in Douglas. Thanks in advance for any
help.
Marty,
I don't know if there is any relationship or not, but my great grandfather
was born in 1827 in England. Came to America thru Canada with his father and
stepmother. Ran away at 16 years of age; married and had children. His wife
died and he remarried. Second wife (Susan) was my great grandmother. They
had 13 children together, but also reared his children from his first wife.
I don't know any of their names, but his first child with Susan was not born
until 1871. In the first years of their marriage they traveled to Washington
State and back to Illinois where they had married and settled in
Morrisonville, Illinois. It is quite possible that my g-grandfather ( James
Chaplin) could have fathered your David Thomas, but I can't say for sure.
James didn't leave much information behind. I have been having trouble
finding much on him. Have you checked death records or announcements in
local newspapers in the area where he died? Hope there is a connection. Good
luck with your quest.
Jean
