Having no immediate kin is sad 'tough'. But not all CHAPLIN's are going to be
your relatives. When I search about my John CHAPLIN born 1813 PA. m. Charlotte STONEKING
in SW Pennsylvania, probably Greene County. Some of their children were born in PA., but
they also crossed over the border into Virginia (part of which later became Wetzel Co.,
W.VA. in 1863), and the younger children were born there. Daughter Sarah Ellen CHAPLIN
was born in 1846, m. David G. SMITH (we cannot find where, [David had a previous marriage
and left her, claiming (taking) the older daughter]. David could teach school, so the
family moved often. Sarah Ellen CHAPLIN had 13 children by David SMITH. They moved onto
Oregon about 1885, Their last child was born in Lane Co., Oregon. David moved to Oregon,
something about being near a Cousin, that was a hard one to find any evidence for.
Back to John & Charlotte CHAPLIN, SMITH family notes suggested that they died in
1886 & 1887, but I have found no evidence where. Family notes suggest that John's
parents were John CHAPLIN and Jane ROBINSON. There is some evidence in PA. & W.VA.
censuses for such names. John Sr.'s father possibly was William CHAPLIN. That puts
me into the 1700's. The boundaries of PA., VA., and MD. in early times are a problem,
because they change at different times. That is the Mason-Dixon Line, an Internet search
on that term will give you some idea about that.
I said you live in N.H., does that mean you think your CHAPLINs lived in New England:
MA., CT., ME., VT., N.H., ? Could they have come down from CANADA?
Good luck as you try to find out who you really are?
Does the name BOON suggest a wife's surname? If so a search on that might help
you.
