WAPELLO, Iowa
John R. Chaplin, 68, of Wapello, died Tuesday, Oct. 3, 2000.
Services will be at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello. The Rev. Dan Doolin will
officiate. Burial will be at the Fulton Cairo Cemetery in rural Morning Sun.
Visitation will be at the funeral home where a rosary will be prayed. Memorials may be
made to the Morning Sun and Wapello Volunteer Fire Departments.
Mr. Chaplin was born Aug. 25, 1932, in Quincy, Ill., the son of Earl and Louise Teufel
Chaplin. He married Patricia Flesch on April 11, 1953, in Quincy. She died Dec. 20, 1968.
He married Anna Mae Marshall Walker on Nov. 27, 1970, in Wapello.
He served in the US Navy and then worked as a salesman in the Quincy area until 1968.
He moved to Wapello and worked for Chanen Auto Supply until 1971. He opened C & H Auto
Supply and served the community until 1987. After selling his business he owned the C
& H Wrecker Service until his death.
He was involved in the Gold Wing Club and a founder of the Golden Wish Foundation.
He served as a Louisa County Sheriff Reserve and the Columbus Junction Police Reserve.
He was of the Catholic faith.
Survivors include his wife, Anna Mae; three daughters, Joan Chaplin of Burlington, Joyce
and Robert Kramer of Wapello, Janet Chaplin of Kirksville, Mo.; five sons, Mark and Laura
Chaplin of Tipp City, Ohio, Mike and Bobbi Chaplin of Wapello, Don Chaplin of Des Moines,
Dan and Christy Chaplin of Mediapolis, and Dale and Connie Chaplin of Virginia Beach, Va;
a stepdaughter, Terri and Mike Parish of Wapello; two stepsons, Mike and Cathy Walker of
Wilton and Jim and Diana Walker of Glen Allen, Mo; 14 grandchildren; and eight step
grandchildren; his father, Earl of Quincy; and five sisters, Wanda Garland of Quincy,
Helen Saiyan of Sherman Oaks, Calif., Linda Anderson of Quincy, Suesy Brand of Sherman
Oaks, and Debbie Daniel of Burlington.

Anna Mae Chaplin, 73, of Wapello, died Friday night, April 18, 2008, at her home.
Service will be at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home, Wapello. The Rev. Scott Smith will
officiate. Burial will follow at the Fulton Cairo Cemetery of rural Morning Sun.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for the benefit of the United
Methodist Church at Wapello and the Central of Iowa Hospice.
Mrs. Chaplin was born November 24, 1934, in Cairo, Iowa, the daughter of James H. and Nina
Mae Fitzgerald Marshall. She first married Dean Walker. On November 27, 1970, she married
John R. Chaplin at Wapello. He preceded her in death on October 3, 2000.
She graduated from Wapello High School in 1952. She was a homemaker and for many years
with John they operated C & H Auto Supply. She later was a caregiver for various
individuals in the community.
She enjoyed reading and keeping up with her family.
She is survived by a daughter, Terri and Mike Parish of Wapello; two sons, Mike and Cathy
Walker of Wilton and Jim and Diana Walker of Marble Hill, Missouri; three step-daughters,
Joan Chaplin of Burlington, Joyce and Robert Kramer of Wapello, and Janet and Steve Davies
of Warsaw, Missouri; five step-sons, Mark and Laura Chaplin of Sugar Grove, Illinois, Mike
and Bobbi Chaplin of Fruitland, Don Chaplin of Dubuque, Dan and Christy Chaplin of
Mediapolis, and Dale and Connie Chaplin of Virginia Beach, Virginia; eight grandchildren;
five great-grandchildren; 14 stepgrandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister,
Betty and Dick Scott of Davenport; a brother, Robert and Mary Marshall of Branson,
Missouri; and a special longtime friend, Mary Alice Honson of Mediapolis.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; a sister, Mildred; and two
brothers, Norbert and Alvin Lloyd.
