My John CHAPLIN was in Pennsylvania late 1700's, then John, the son, moved south into
Virginia, an area that became West Virginia with the American Civil War (War Between The
States). Before Pennsylvania, this CHAPLIN line may have been in Maryland. Yes, they
probably were British (English), but who and when the first one crossed the Atlantic
Ocean, I have no idea.

What part of the country are your Chaplin's? My Chaplin's start in the early
1700 - 1800 onwards in Berkshire, Easthampstead, Warfield, Winkfield, Binfield.
