Hello Dee,
Nice to have you aboard! I'm responding to your request for Roll Call.
My ggrandmother was Ruth CHAPLIN of the SC Lowcountry and her line looks like this:
William Chaplin of St. Helena Island, SC (1714-1784)
Thomas B. Chaplin (builder of TOMBEE plantation on St. Helena Island, SC) 1741/42-1835
Saxby Chaplin of St. Helena Island, SC (1780-1828)
Saxby Chaplin of St. Helena & Walterboro, SC (1825-1884)
-->Ruth Chaplin of Walterboro, SC (1855-1892) m. William Frederick BELLINGER,
Episcopal priest
I have additional information about the CHAPLINs, BELLINGERs and collateral families.
This brief list is to provide some perspective on how I am connected to the CHAPLINs.
Thanks!
Mot

Hi again!
Since we have a new list administrator, I thought the time was right for a new roll call.
So won't you please send in your?Chaplin connections, requests, brickwalls?
?
My Chaplin connection is through Mary Chaplin, daughter of John Chaplin, wife of John
Seaman (b. 1518 England d. 1604 England).? I don't have much on this line yet, so I
will try to provide more information soon.
Kind regards,
Dee Ferris

Thanks Dee,
Years ago one of my mother's Aunt's, I think, wrote down some names and not
much more.
Sarah Ellen CHAPLIN was born 6 Oct 1846 [It was 'said that she was born in
Virginia'.]
But when I located her and her said parents on the U.S. Fed. Census they were in
Wetzel County, which became West Virginia
If someone wants the census details, I will need to get into my 'paper
folders'.
Sarah Ellen's parents were -
John CHAPLIN born about 1813 in PA. (from census record)
Charlotte STONEKING born 20 Mar 1817 in Greene Co., PA.
(from the census) the older children were born in PA. (that's
Pennsylvania)
Someone's notes (son or daughter-in-law) 'said he died in 1887'.
and Charlotte died in 1886 (same notes)
I have yet to find a grave, cemetery or death record to verify those dates.
John CHAPLIN - same written down names & not much more 'said'
John's parents were
John CHAPLIN
Jane ROBINSON
I have seen a 'wee bit' of U.S. Fed. Census indication that John might be the
correct name; but early PA. census record did not use the precise CHAPLIN spelling.
Since CHAPLIN is probably not a German spelling, the CHAPLIN family probably did not
enter PA. on the Eastern Shore of Pennsylvania. But rather from New England or Maryland
or possibly New Jersey. The was a CHAPLINE in early Maryland. So on this point I am open
to any suggestions.
That's my CHAPLIN line. Sarah Ellen SMITH (nee CHAPLIN) died on 18 Mar 1918 in
Springfield, Lane Co., OR (Oregon - on the West Coast of U.S.A.). She moved often after
her marriage (no record yet found) to David SMITH in 1864. She gave birth to 13 children
in various states: TN., MO., MN., NE., and OR. [I think that completes the list.] David
could teach school, manage a store (with or without a post office) and buy land with a
little farming in mind.
Kay Chestnut, also, in Oregon, U.S.A.
