I am searching for information on William Gray Chaplin and his ancestors.
The only documents I have found so far are the 1860 census and his marriage
license. According to the 1860 census, he was born about 1815 in North
Carolina. He was a white male living in Tyrrell County, North Carolina. He
was a mariner. He married Martha Melissa Skinner on 1 July 1852 in Chowan
County, North Carolina. This was possibly a second marriage as he was
considerably older than his bride. Family records, but no documentation,
indicate he died at sea in 1868. His widow married Lemuel Basnight in
Tyrrell County, North Carolina.
This is my toughest brick wall. I have explored many leads but none have
produced any results.

Subject: [CHAPLIN] Roll Call
Hi again!
Since we have a new list administrator, I thought the time was right for a
new roll call. So won't you please send in your Chaplin connections,
requests, brickwalls?
My Chaplin connection is through Mary Chaplin, daughter of John Chaplin,
wife of John Seaman (b. 1518 England d. 1604 England). I don't have much on
this line yet, so I will try to provide more information soon.
Kind regards,
Dee Ferris
