Here is all the information I have on the children of Alonzo and Minerva Hendricks
Chaplin:
Frances Chaplin (female) age 14, appears in the 1870 census in the family of Alonzo and
Minerva Chaplin. I found a record of her marriage to Edward Wigle, 6 Nov 1872. Also, I
found a cemetery record for Fannie Wiggle, who died in 1945, daughter of Alonzo and
Minerva Chaplin. According to the 1880 U.S. Census, Edward and Fannie Wigle then had
three children: Clara age 6, Charles age 4, and a daughter, one month, no given name. The
census record says that Edward Wiggle "sells tombstones".
Charles A. Chaplin is found in the 1850 census of Adams County, Illinois, in the family of
Alonzo Chaplin, and his age is listed as "3". In the 1870 census in Daviess
County, Missouri, he is listed as 21 years old. Thus his date of birth would be between
1847 and 1849. His occupation is listed as farm laborer. In 1870 he was living with his
father and mother. The 1882 Daviess County, Missouri History reports that Charles A.
Chalin played the alto saxophone in the Bancroft brass band.
Roland Chaplin, 8 months old, is found in the 1850 census of Adams County, Illinois, in
the family of Alonzo Chaplin. Roland does not appear in the 1860 census in the family of
Alonzo and Minerva Chaplin, and it is possible he died before 1860.
Oscar, age 2 years, appears in the 1860 Census in the Alonzo Chaplin household, but not in
the 1870 Census.
Mary Jane Chaplin appears in the 1870 census in Daviess County, Missouri in the family of
Alonzo and Minerva Chaplin. A cemetery record in Cottonwood Missouri shows she was the
daughter of Alonzo Chaplin, married to Charles Hickman May 29, 1875.
Franklin Chaplin appears in the 1870 census of Daviess County, Missouri, in the family of
Alonzo and Minerva Chaplin.
In the 1880 census there is an entry for "Eli F. Chaplin" age 16, and it is
probable this is the same person named Eli Franklin Chaplin.
Ida Chaplin, age 3, appears in the 1870 census of Daviess County Missouri in the family of
Alonzo and Minerva Chaplin. She also appeared in the 1880 census, age 13. She married
James Boyd Jan. 30, 1886 in Polk Missouri.
William A. Chaplin, age 9, appears in the 1880 census in the household of Alonzo and
Minerva Chaplin. His wife's name was Augusta. He and Augusta moved to Edgerton,
Kansas in 1898. He was a railroad foreman until 1937. In 1933 William Chaplin became the
Mayor of Edgerton. He died in 1956 in Edgerton, Kansas.
