My grandmother was Mary ann Chapin, b. 1870, Somerville, Butler Co, OH
Her father was Daniel Chapin, b. 1825, Somerville (Milford Twp), OH
(md. Hannah Blossom, dau of Perry Blossom and Keziah Kellum)
The only Chapin on the 1820 and 1830 census in Milford Twp was Rosswell
Chapin, and wife Sarah Marsh, md. 1820. Roswell is listed as age 66, b. VT
on the 1850 census.
Mary Ann was the youngest of 13 children, with 2 sets of twins for siblings.
First born, son William, second, twins, Rosswell and Perry. Perry is named
for Hannah's father, was Rosswell named for Daniel's father? Logical, but no
proof.
No official records were kept in OH in 1825, so I am hoping somebody has data
on this family. If not, does anyone have data on the other Roswells of the
late 1700s? There were 3, I think. I am sure in 1820, there were 2 or 3 on
censuses. One in OH, also, NY, and I believe MA. I am sure it comes from a
surname of someone.
Thanks in advance.
Helen
