Ron,
Thank you for forwarding my information on Jenette Chapin Lattin to the Chapin mailing
list. (I am now on that list.) I do have her father's name--Jason Chapin--from her
death certificate.
For the list, I will recap in shorter form what I have on Jenette/Janette Chapin:
Born 18 Sept 1843, place unknown, except that she told census enumerators on several
different pollings that she was born in Pennsylvania.
Father's name on her death certificate was Jason Chapin, information given by her
son.
Jenette worked as a cook on a canal boat on the Chemung Canal in Chemung County, New York,
when she was a young girl. That is apparently where she met Lewis Lattin because his
family was in Chemung County in 1850, and a Lewis Lattin was a boatman there in 1850. She
had one son, Benjamin, with Lewis Lattin.
She married (2) Ambrose Norton in Nov. 1868 and had 4 more children.
Jenette died 26 May 1923 near Whitesville, NY, in Allegany County.
I've spent countless hours looking for Jenette and /or her father under so many
spelling variations. I did find a Jason Chapin in Pennsylvania of the right age--he was a
son of Samuel Chapin and Hannah Trescott. But I was unable to trace this Jason after his
birth 17 Mar. 1807.
Thank you again, Ron, and anyone who can help.

I couldn't find anything either, but I'm CCing the Chapin list
in case somebody there can help...
