My great-grandmother (on my mother's paternal side), Jeanette Chapin
Lattin, married a Lewis Lattin who was either a brother or the
father of a Ruth and Esther Lattin.
[...]
My great-grandmother Jeanette Chapin Lattin married her second
husband,
Ambrose Norton, in the home of Joseph and Esther Merrick in the Town
of Willing, Allegany County, New York. (I have her wedding certificate
from her second marriage, but not her first marriage to Lewis Lattin.)
On Jeanette's death certificate, her son said she was born in Chemung
County, New York, and Jeanette told my grandmother that she had been
a cook on a canal boat on the Chemung Canal when she was a girl.
(I believe that Jeanette's son [my grandfather] did not really know
where she was born, because Jeanette told numerous census enumerators
that she was born in Pennsylvania.) But it seems likely that she did
spend time in Chemung County, and probably was sister-in-law of Esther
Lattin Merrick. I think that the elder Lewis Lattin who was married
to Delarcy probably had a son named Lewis, but I have not been able
to find him. Oral family history says he was killed in war, and that
would likely had been the Civil War; in Nov. of 1868, his widow Jeanette
remarried. (I have just begun Lattin research, so my knowledge is
sketchy.)
[...]
My great-grandmother Jeanette had one child, Benjamin Lattin, from
her first marriage, and he was half-brother to the four children she
had from her second marriage. (I descended from her second marriage,
so I have no Lattin ancestry. I have been looking into the Lattin
family this past summer in an attempt to trace Jeanette Chapin Lattin.
We have almost nothing on her, and I cannot find her parents.)
I couldn't find anything either, but I'm CCing the Chapin list
in case somebody there can help...
I do not have a Lattin genealogy, but I will soon be meeting with a
distant relative who descended from my grandfather's half-brother,
Benjamin Lattin. I hope to get more information from her, and will
pass it on to you if you are interested.
Benjamin Lattin married Elsie Chalker here in Town of Willing and
had 13 children (one of his sons was also named Lewis), so with
Lewis, Esther, and John Lattin passing on their genes in Allegany
County, there are many people in this area with Lattin ancestry.
The Lattins of Town of Veteran, Chemung County (numerous families),
seem to have originated in Connecticut, and there are some online
genealogies of this family. The Lattins of Conn. were mostly in
Fairfield County. However, I could not find Lewis Lattin in any
online genealogy.
I found Genette [sic] Chapin m. Lewis Latten in the following:
